Good Sunday morning! As I sip my coffee this morning, I’m thinking of the blessings that abound in my life. I have an amazing family for which I’m so grateful. I have a career as an accountant and it’s blessed me beyond words. And my writing career has taken me to new heights as each book builds on the last. The Lord has blessed me in so many ways that sometimes I don’t feel like I deserve all that He’s given me.
Some days I just sit in awe of everything that’s good in my life. Now don’t get me wrong, there is bad in my life too. But I strive to keep it from taking away from the good. Sometimes I let my writing take the bad away. I lose it in the words.
So, my advice to you on this holiday weekend is to take a long look at your life. Even in the darkest places we need to count the blessings that we do have. And you don’t have to be a writer to write out your bad days. Grab a journal and write in it every day. If you’re having a bad day, then write it down and forget it. Leave it in between the pages.
Good Friday morning everyone! Smile people, the weekend is almost upon us. This has been a crazy week, well, actually it’s been a crazy couple of weeks. Sorry, I’ve been a little awol, but life sometimes takes over along with two books that need finishing…
Oh, yeah, not to mention that two of my favorite shows had their season premieres. Yes, I’m talking Grey’s Anatomy and Outlander. No, I’m not doing any spoilers here, so don’t be afraid to read on. Last but not least, pumpkin spice everything is back. And if you’ve followed my blog for any amount of time, you know how happy that makes me.
As I sit here, sipping my pumpkin spice flavored coffee and watching the newest episode of Grey’s Anatomy, I’m noticing that it is still dark at 6:47 here in Georgia. Although Fall is one of my favorite seasons, I don’t enjoy the dark mornings. It makes it hard to wake up. I’m not a morning person, to begin with, but I do need the sun to get my eyes open. Of course, the older I get, the earlier my body wants to get up.
So, what’s your favorite pumpkin spice flavored thing?
This is the view from my front porch this morning. The temperatures have finally warmed up and the threat of rain looms, but you can’t tell by the gorgeous sunrise. The fog is starting to clear and is barely visible in this photo. I feel inspired as the vibrant colors stream through the front windows.
As most of you know from reading my posts I try to get in my word count every morning. This morning as I woke at 6:00 my body and brain felt heavy and filled with inspiration zapping fog. I dragged myself out of bed and fixed breakfast for my son. As I poured the coffee and the delicious aroma steamed up to my nose I smiled. Yes, I need several cups of coffee. Since the time changed the sun comes up later and that always makes it hard for me to wake up. But one look at this beautiful sunrise I feel inspired to get to work. I can do this is the feeling it inspires.
Does a beautiful sunrise inspire you? As for me, I’m off to get in a couple thousand words before a warm shower and then on to the accounting office. I may need that third cup of coffee while I type…
I sat and did a little people watching not long ago. As a writer it’s a tool I use for inspiration and also it’s really fun. People can be funny when they don’t know your watching them. The biggest thing I noticed was that most of the people were easily distracted. Either their phone was buzzing or they were looking at things on their phones.
Do people ever just stop and smell the roses anymore? I remember when I was younger we’d sit on the front porch in the evenings and just watch the sun go down. It was peaceful and relaxing. But now everyone is attached to some kind of device and they’re either text, on social media or listening to something. It’s a crazy thing.
It’s the same with readers now a days. I’ve seen a sharp incline in shorter books. I have even had fans tell me they love that my books don’t take up a lot of time and they can read them in one or two sittings. I remember when you’d grab a large novel that would keep you reading for a couple of days and be happy. Now you have the lunch time readers that want a book that’ll fill up their lunch hour and be done.
We stay way too busy these days. Have you watched sat and watched the sun sink in the sky lately? Have you watched the sun rise with the promise of a new day? What about just sat down and talked with your spouse about random things? We need to stop and smell the roses more often. Enjoy the short life we’re given and remember to live…
