A peek into Breakwater Lane…

It’s Tuesday! We made it through Monday… Let’s talk romance, more importantly, Breakwater Lane which is coming out August 31st!

I wanted you to get a peek at Breakwater Lane. If you are a member of my Street Team, then you’ve seen the whole first chapter, but here’s a little snippet from the first time the two main characters are together in the book…

She took a deep breath and turned the key in the lock, opening her new life.

“Hey, can I help you?” A deep male voice said from behind her.

Jordan jumped, putting her hand on her heart. “Oh my goodness. You scared the life out of me.” Jordan said as she whirled around, looking up in the most amazing set of eyes she’d ever seen. They weren’t blue exactly, but a greenish blue, almost the color of the water in Wishful Harbor just after a storm.

“I’m sorry, are you Hank’s granddaughter?”

“Yes.” Jordan reached out her hand to the man. “Jordan.”

“Glad to meet you Jordan, for the second time.” The man grinned. “Skyler, Skyler Evans.”

Jordan tilted her head, curious. “Second time. I don’t understand. Have we met before?”

“We met behind the building. I was fishing and you were falling into the water. I dove in and saved you.” Skyler said, crossing his muscular arms across his chest with a grin.

“Oh, I didn’t recognize you,” Jordan said with a giggle as she remembered the incident that he was speaking of. She also remembered the crush she’d had on it.

“I can imagine. You ran away as soon as I saved you.” Skyler said with a little sarcasm lacing his voice. He remembered the spoiled little girl that she’d been. Now he saw a beautiful young woman but had she lost her spoiled ways.

“Well, I was so embarrassed. I’d been showing off in front of you, then fell over the side of the dock.” Jordan said with a grin as she put her purse on the table, turning to look around. “So, you stayed here?”

“It’s my home. I can’t imagine living anywhere other than Wishful Harbor.”

“But didn’t you want to get out and enjoy life?”

Skyler scowled, bringing his brows together in anger. “I see you haven’t changed a bit.”

Jordan whirled back around to face him, confusion in her eyes. “Excuse me.”

“You were a spoiled brat then, and I see you’re still a spoiled brat.” Skyler turned to walk out the door.

At first, Jordan watched him walking out the door, then she ran after him. “Hey, wait a minute. Why are you calling me a spoiled brat?”

Skyler stopped, not turning around. “Lady, you don’t have a clue about small town life. It’s a way of life that some enjoy. Not everyone wants to travel or go to large cities.” Then he turned around, looking down at her. “And I do enjoy life, every day.”

That was a short little peek, but you get the gist of the start of their relationship. It’s as turbulent as the water in Wishful Harbor during a storm.

As always, good writing and May God Bless You…

Our job as an author…

banner-pptx

Good morning! It’s Monday morning and I’m ready for a productive week. Of course, my hubby is on vacation this week, so I’ll get to see him a lot, which is a great thing.

So, as an author, what are we trying to accomplish? I’m not talking about earning money, I’m talking about with our words.

Here are my top five things I try to accomplish with the words that come from my heart…

1: First and foremost, I want to entertain my reader. I want my ready to enjoy what I write and to want more of it. I want them to smile, laugh and cry when they read my work.

2: I want my readers to be taken away to another world. With Tuscany, I wanted to make them feel like they were in Italy. I wanted them to feel the warm Mediterranean breeze on their face. With my Christmas books, I want this to smell the Christmas spices, to feel the joy of the season and to feel the cold of the snow all around them.

3: My readers should feel what my characters feel. I want them to feel the happiness, the sorrow, and the anger.

4: With the romance, I want my readers to get lost in it. I want them to experience the romance of the story. So many people tell me that they haven’t ever had true romance, so I want them to feel it with every book they read of mine.

5: And finally, this is what every writer should aspire to do and that’s to take your reader to another realm of reality. Whether you write romance, mystery or horror, you should strive to take away the everyday troubles of your reader. Help them get lost in another world, if only for an hour. But help them forget everything but the characters and stories that are within the covers of your work.

So, what do you want to accomplish with your writing?

As always, good writing and May God Bless You…

Saturday Cover Reveal!

Wow! The sun is shining this morning. It inspires me to have the sun coming in through the window as I write. I guess you could say it brightens my mind.

Since Breakwater Lane is on its final edit before release day, I’m working on the 2nd book of the Sky Ridge Series. The first book in the series did well and continues to do well in the charts. I’m excited to get book two out as it continues the story.

Here’s the beautiful cover that my cover designer made and I must say, I want to be there it’s so beautiful!

Promises Forgotten front cover

This series is full of sweet romance and drama. It’s a clean read, so if you like a clean romance where you can fall in love with the characters, then this is the one for you… But I suggest that you read Promises Made first. Promises Forgotten will be out soon, but I’ll keep you posted as soon as the release date is set!

Hope all is well with you this weekend and that you’re getting in some writing or reading whichever is your pleasure. As for me, it’s writing and a bit of reading. I have to keep my mind flowing you know.

Friday writing and other ramblings…

Good Friday morning! We’ve almost made it to the weekend. Only a little bit longer… You can do it, I know you can.

So, it’s Friday morning and I’m getting in my word count before I get ready for my day job. I’m working on the 2nd book of the Sky Ridge Series. Since I just sent the last of Breakwater Lane to my editor for the last edits, I’m geared up to work on Promises Forgotten.

As I work on Promises Forgotten, I have to remember that this one is historical, not in current time. LOL! And with that said, I have to remember that they can’t just flip the light switch on. Yes, I did that again. I let my character walk in the room and turn the lights on. So, how do I keep from doing this…

Yes, that’s a sticky note (the ultimate author hack), on the side of my laptop to remind me what my characters don’t have. And yes, I’ve had to go back and delete a couple of times.

While I’m on the subject of reminding, don’t forget to go to this link for a chance to win a Kindle. It’s so easy and all you have to do is share, share, share! http://lovekissedbookbargains.com/category/giveaways/preorder-giveaway/

I know, I’m rambling, but it’s Friday! So, as I finish my second cup of coffee and work toward my word count for the morning, I send my hope that you have a fantastic Friday!

As always, good writing and May God Bless You…

Character Sketch – Skyler Evans

Breakwater Lane Front Cover

Good morning! Today we’re talking about Skyler Evans, the lead male character in Breakwater Lane.

Skyler is from Breakwater Lane, born and raised. He’s from a hardworking family and has great values. Skyler tried life away from Wishful Harbor, going to college and working in Boston, but that wasn’t for him. He loves Wishful Harbor and all it has to offer. His home is on a cliff that overlooks the harbor.

Skyler is well liked in the small community. Everyone calls him when they need construction work. He’s trustworthy and able to fix just about anything he puts his mind to. One of his favorite things is to go for long walks on the beach.

Many years ago, he was in awe of a young girl that spent her summers in Wishful Harbor. But he never expected to see her again, until she walked up to the old deli and unlocked the door. His heart was shocked.

Don’t forget to preorder Breakwater Lane for only .99 until release day!

Character Sketch – Jordan Reed…

Breakwater preorder ad

Good morning everyone! Today I want to talk about the main character in Breakwater Lane, the first book in the Wishful Harbor series.

Let’s me introduce you to the spunky, strong willed woman that brings Breakwater Lane to life. Her name is Jordan Reed. She was born in Georgia, but when her parents divorced, she moved with her mom to Denver. But as a child, she spent a couple of weeks every summer with her grandfather in Wishful harbor.

She’d enjoyed those summers. They’d cook together, go to the beach and climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse, then laugh as they reached the top. She’d gained her love of cooking while standing by her grandfather in his deli. Then, when her parents divorced, her mom moved her across the country. She no longer was able to spend her summers with her beloved grandfather.

But she carried on the love of cooking by going to culinary school and becoming a chef. Although her dream was to own a restaurant, she thought it was just a whim. Then when her grandfather died, she was called into a lawyers office for the will. Her grandfather had left her the deli. She was overwhelmed.

Upon arrival in Wishful Harbor, she wondered if she could live in a small town again. Would she be able to get by without the hustle and bustle of Denver? Then she set eyes on Skyler Evans and things began to fall into place, but there was something brewing in the small town of Wishful Harbor that would put everything she’d ever known to the test.

Ok, so, I can’t go much farther without giving away too much of the story, but as you can see, Jordan is a spunky woman with big ideas. You’ll have a love hate relationship with her. Tomorrow I’ll do a character sketch on Skyler Evans.

Throwback Thursday – Writing…

Good Thursday morning! If you’ve read my posts, you know I need my coffee, meaning I need caffeine in the morning… With that said, I let us run out of coffee… Yes, I know! Why? Why? Why? I found a bag of coffee my mom gave us, but it’s decaffeinated, yikes! I was a walking zombie until I remembered the Keurig coffee I had. Yay! I’m back to the living and think I can function today…

So, on to the post of the day… It’s Throwback Thursday and why not do a post on my back stock books. Now, just a little reminder, a couple of these were from my early days of writing, sooooo, let’s just say, my style has changed.

The first book I officially published was Ghost Lover, which has recently been revised… This book has my heart, just sayin’ … And the Facebook page for this book has exceeded the follows on all of my pages, it’s been amazing.

Then there was Tender Flames… Ahhh, yes, one of my hearts too. This story played with my mind for a long time before I finally put it on paper (Years before it was published). This too has been revised…

Moonbeam & Roses made me cry. I used up several boxes of tissues with this one. It pulled at my heartstrings and from the reader response, it pulled at others too…

Finding the Right Time came to me in a dream… I had to get it on paper as soon as I woke and it was written fairly quickly. It’s in the revision process at the moment, and will be redone soon. But, the story is fun and different, but overlook the style of writing. Yep, I was gaining my voice… Enough said… This was by far the hardest cover to design..

And last but not least, one of my oldest published novels, A Love Never Lost. This book made it to the second round of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest… That was a thrilling time, but it’s sad they stopped doing that contest.

So, that’s my Throwback Thursday… Hope you enjoyed it. It was a pleasant trip down my publishing memory lane.

As always, good writing and May God Bless You…

Monday’s are hard…
