Weighing the options…

Ok, so most of you are writers and have dealt with the issue I’m going to discuss, but those that haven’t here goes. This all started back in May of last year when I decided to publish the manuscripts I’d worked on for many, many years. I thought, hey, why not, their not making money sitting in a box gathering dust and fading ink.

It all started so simple, I published on Amazon and went through the KDP Select program. Don’t know if you’ve tried that, but I was glad when my 3 month sentence was up. Amazon is great, I just didn’t care to have all my eggs in one basket so to speak. I then started publishing other books and gathering information on where I could self publish.

Then I started the fun task of putting my name out there on any and all social media mediums. Boy was that a hoot. Me, country girl, simple accountant on Twitter, LinkedIn, and finally, yes can I say it, the dreaded Facebook page. Funny how publishing a book or six can change your life. 🙂

Well, the calls started coming in about October from different publishing companies. At first I’m thinking yeah, someone noticed me. Then I realized they weren’t in it for me, but for them. Well not all of them, but you get the picture. They were praising my work and saying we need you to publish under our name. Well, being an accountant, my analytical brain kicked it, “What’s the catch?” They usually laugh and say ‘Oh there’s no catch’. Funny how 2 to 3 thousand dollars is no catch to them, but to me that’s a whopper. They usually wanted to charge thousands of dollars to do the same exact thing I’ve been doing for a lot less and most of the times free. Not happening.

I then talked to some smaller publishers that said they would just take a cut of the royalties. Now we’re talking my language. But, who do you go with. I’ve researched the ones that have called me and some of the one’s other authors I know used. It’s a hard decision. Do I give my baby to just anybody? Will they protect it and not change it to where I don’t even recognize my own work? What now?

For me the decision is to put one of my works with a publisher and see how it goes. I don’t know if it will go well or not, but we will see. I will keep you guys updated on the progress and the ups and downs of traditional publishing vs. self publishing. Wish me luck…

As always good writing and May God Bless you…

Romance…

Romance is so elusive and sometimes hard to find unless you’re reading it in a novel. That’s the comment I hear so often. I don’t believe this state of mind that many people have. Romance can be found, lost, and revived. Still a skeptic?

Romance has been around since the first day of creation. Some people search for it as they would gold in the hills. Sometimes you have it and just don’t see it at all. It’s that simple touch from your lover that sends tiny tendrils of goosebumps up your spine. It’s that simple look of pleasure that you share across the table.

Have you ever wondered where romance hides? Everyone has a moment when you think romance has gone away. Maybe it’s when finances are bad, tragedy looms, or when a marriage fails. Romance is still there, we just as humans put it behind our heart and refuse at times to pull it out again.

As a romance writer I try to bring romance into everyone’s heart. It’s one of the biggest sellers today, romance. Everyone wants it, but what lengths will they go to? Some will spend a fortune buying gifts to show romance, but true romance can’t be bought. It’s a part of you. A kiss is free, a look is free and a touch is free. Give it a try. You might enjoy finding a little romance.

As always, good writing and May God Bless you!

Writer’s frame of mind

What’s up with my writer’s brain? The book “Rekindled Flame” that was supposed to be completed in December is still in the process. What started out to be a novella has turned out to be a novella on steroids. It’s funny how you think you know how the manuscript will go and then all of a sudden you’re going into a more advanced manuscript.

Got to rant for a moment on reviews. As I’ve said before reviews rarely make me upset, but I’ve received a couple that seem to be from the same person. It’s like a reviewer stalker. They’re appearing on all my books and say basically the same thing. What’s funny is the review does not fit the book. I’m not sure what the reviewer is trying to accomplish, but I do know that they need to actually read the book so that the review at least matches. I don’t get mad or upset about ugly, nasty reviews, but I don’t appreciate just downright vicious ones that come from a person that evidently never read the book to begin with. Oh, well, enough of that. Whew, got that off my chest. Now I feel lot’s better 🙂

Was pleasantly surprised when a delivery was made yesterday. It was my newest novel. I ordered copies for giveaways and family. It was “The Winner Is Love”. It’s so exciting to hold your work in your hand. Seeing them on the internet and computer screen is one thing, but to actually hold it in your hand is so rewarding. I was very pleased with the cover. My editor designs my covers and she’s awesome. She get’s exactly what I want and totally blows me away with the finished product.

Well, it’s Friday and school started back today for my son. It was a wonderful Christmas break. We spent some good mama-son time together. It was sad to put him on the bus this morning. The house is so quiet without him playing his drums (Santa had a brain issue). Well, it’s back to normal in the office and tax season has begun.

As usual, good writing and May God Bless You!

“The Winner is Love” coming soon!

Well, the book may not be totally finished for publishing, but the front cover is completed. This is the first of the two holiday romances that I have coming out. I am so excited about this new Christmas romance. The editing and finalizing has been harrowing, but it’s almost ready to unwrap, pardon the pun.

This is a romance about an Accountant from Atlanta that wins the “Win A Weekend With A Star” contest. She did not enter it, her best friend entered her. The star happens to be the hottest star out at the moment and she is a little leary spending a weekend in the Colorado mountains with him. What happens when a blizzard hits the first night and the power goes out? No heat, no cell reception and no lights, how will they cope? Will it be a weekend to remember? Check it out to see how they cope and what comes later.

I will keep you guys updated on the release date. Hope you like the sneak peek at the new cover. I’m real excited about it.

As always good writing and May God bless you!

Romance! Everyone needs a little!

Romance, everyone needs a little romance. I guess that is what keeps us romance writers busy thinking up new story lines to enhance our readers experience. I have loved romantic stories since I was a young teenager. The first paperback romance I read was “Remembrance” by Danielle Steele. I was hooked from then on.

I would save up my allowance and wait to get to the local bookstore to see what new romance novels were in. Of course when I was a teenager there was no such thing as Kindle, Nook or even going on the internet to order books. I remember getting my first Harlequin book. I thought I had hit the jackpot. My favorite author from Harlequin was Charlotte Lamb. She could take you away to a world that you only dreamed of.

Even a really good marriage needs romance. That is what in my experience keeps the fire going. Even if it is just a simple look at the dinner table or a quiet evening after the kids go to bed. I am a true romantic. I love the candles, bubble baths and a fire in the fireplace.

When I am writing I try to inspire romance. Romance novels can span the genre from Paranormal, Christian, Suspenseful, or historical. I know I left off several types. When I was younger I would never have thought a vampire could bring on romantic feelings, but now that is a given for most. What about a kidnapper that falls in love with their victim and the other way around? Yep I have even read a romance that this happened and it turned out to be a sweet romance.

You can find romance in a horse stable, a department store or even the funeral home. Funny how romance slips in through even the tiniest cracks in the wall. Two complete strangers can find romance in the funniest of places and totally unexpected times. Romance is everywhere, you just have to open yourself up to the possibility.

So if you are an old married couple, young married couple, or even if you are not married, try a little romance. It will lift your spirits, it will revive your soul and you will smile. If you do not have anyone to be romantic with, do this. Get a romance novel, a comfortable chair, some chocolate and a hot steaming cup of tea and get lost. Believe me, it works and you will feel like a whole new person, with possibilities. So get romancing♥
