Midweek Writing Tip…

Photo by Ann Nekr on Pexels.com

It’s already Wednesday, but the weekend seems so far away. I’m snatching a few minutes out of my morning to write and blog.

Speaking of snatching minutes to write… Today’s writing tip goes along those lines. It’s important to a writer to have time each day to write. It could be just a few minutes or if you’re lucky, maybe a couple of hours. Either way, try to sit down and write everyday if you can.

Why do you need to write everyday? Well, for me it helps my sanity. The characters running around in my head go crazy when I don’t at least get in a couple of minutes. But maybe it’s to meet a deadline, or just to keep up with your commitment to yourself.

So, if it’s early in the morning before anyone else gets up… If it’s at lunch… Or maybe you’re a night writer. Grab some writing time and keep up to good work.

As always, good writing and May God Bless You…

Midweek Coffee Break

Photo by Karolina Grabowska on Pexels.com

Take a little time for yourself everyday. It only takes a few minutes of sipping coffee or tea and a little relaxation to get yourself back up to speed. During tax season I try to take a moment to just sip my afternoon coffee and breathe.

ENJOY YOUR DAY… LIVE LIFE… AND LAUGH…

Wednesday Afternoon Tea…

You read that right. I said tea… Sometimes I do drink hot tea. Usually I grab an herbal blend, green tea, or spicy cinnamon. This afternoon I have a stuffy nose, so I’m grabbing some therapeutic green tea. Hopefully it will open me up and I’ll get my head back in the game.

Have a great afternoon!

Wednesday afternoon Coffee…

It’s already halfway through the week… SO, what have you achieved this week. Me, I’ve managed to get in a couple thousand words on Safe in the middle of preparing taxes, accounting, cooking, and life. Safe is coming along nicely and even my editor is getting excited. I love that I can keep her in the dark until she starts editing a section, then I get a text or call saying, hey, what’s happening next. Tsk Tsk, not telling!

Make it the best day ever and stay warm. Sending prayers to all of those in the icy zones of the country. Warm wishes and thoughts…

If I had wings…

Good morning! It’s a mildly cloudy day here in Georgia and a little cool. But, it’s Wednesday, so we’re halfway to the weekend.

My question today is this: If you had wings, where would you go?

If I had wings:

  1. I would fly over the Georgia coast and take in the beauty.
  2. I would fly over Yellowstone park, low and slow. I’d take in all of God’s artistry.
  3. I would swoop down in front of Mt. Rushmore and give a wave.
  4. I would cross the ocean and take in the Swiss Alps. Breathing in the clean fresh air.
  5. Then I would take my last flight over Israel to see the Holy Land in it’s entirety. I’d take my time and see every place I’ve read about.

There are so many places I’d love to go, but if I could fly, these are the top five.

As always, good writing and May God Bless You…

Daily Word Count – Real or Wishful?

keyboard

Good morning! As I sit here, typing my blog, making my Hootsuite schedule and surfing the social media world, I have to remember that I have a daily word count… Yeah, I’m supposed to meet it before I do all the above. Hope my assistant skips reading this post!!!

Anyhow… When I sat down and prepared my writing calendar for 2017, I decided to be realistic. In years past, I’ve given myself too high of a word count, then crashed and burned when I couldn’t keep up. This year, I took into account days that I’d be editing, redrafting and also had something on the calendar for that day. I also reined in my word count to make it more attainable, also lower than what I’m capable of.

As my assistant and I were working on this, I’d say a word count and she’d raise an eyebrow, then I’d lower until the eyebrow relaxed. What’s sad is that my writing calendar has room for me to post my daily progress, yikes that’s scary. SO far in 2017, I’m officially behind on my word count, which means I’ve got to up my game to catch up.

So, if you’re asking, how do I set my word count to be realistic, not wishful thinking, well, let me enlighten you. Over a couple of days, sit down and time yourself while you write. Also keep up with the number of words. If you have a day job, take into account the time you have available to write, which you need to try every day to make a little available time. Then, figure up what you can do.

For me, I write when my hubby goes to work and my son to school. I have two hours until I have to be in the office, so I try to write for at least an hour. During which time I’m boiling my morning egg, and eating said egg… yes, while I’m writing. Then I have time to shower and run across the driveway to open my accounting office. I also try to get in at least an hour in the evening. Of course, the weekends are my catch up time. I spend a couple of hours on Saturday and Sunday filling in for the lost words from the busy week.

So, how do you schedule your word count? Is it realistic or wishful thinking?

As always, good writing and May God Bless You…
