Horses and Romance Novels…

ImageSomeone asked me not too long ago why 95% of my novels have horses in them. I smiled and said well I love them. They just looked at me and laughed. I don’t know what was funny in that statement but I smiled and went on my way.

Have you ever just sat and watched a horse? Ok, so maybe that’s just a thing I do, but really have you? They are so graceful with everything they do. Even when they’re spooked they sidestep gracefully. The strength that emanates from them is extraordinary. I love to just stand beside a horse and feel the strength. I know it sounds strange, but try it sometimes.

Horses have been a part of our culture since forever. Before we had cars we depended on them to get us from point a to point b. They pulled our plows and did the hard stuff. If the horse was down, we were down. Most people owned a horse of some sort. When cars came along the horse was slowly pushed out of the way.

They’re so useful in many ways. They can be used in therapy for many ailments or disabilities. A child can be brought out of depression just by rubbing the nose or coat of a gentle horse and interacting with them.  It’s really amazing, I’ve seen it.

For me I use them in my novels to help with the story. Who doesn’t like a good cowboy romance? Well maybe not everyone, but I sure do. There’s something about a rugged, weathered cowboy falling for his love. A true cowboy almost always has good character and hard work ethic. Their hands are weathered from the reins and hard work. No soft male hands with a cowboy. Not a dime store cowboy, but a real cowboy.

Ok, well I’m off my horse and cowboy rant for the day. Just a look into my warped mind. Scary I know, but it’s me, take it or leave it. I’m a country girl and just keeping it real. No put on here.

As always, good writing and May God bless you…

Staying busy…

Well it’s Wednesday. The work week is half over. Since I’m an Accountant, this is the start of my busy season. With the Fiscal Cliff issue somewhat resolved the IRS has finally released a date that we can start filing some returns. Remember I said some, not all. That could mean a lot of things like angry clients, moody preparers and lots and lots of fun 🙂

As for me, I love this season. I love to be busy. Especially this year with adding published author into the mix. It’s been a real busy ride so far. What with publishing 6 books in 2012 and marketing said 6 books, but I’m not complaining. I met some awesome people along the way. People I would never have met had it not been for my writing. By the way that means you guys 🙂

Someone asked me the other day had being a published author changed me. I laughed hysterically and then said “NO”. Now if I was a bestselling author on the New York Best sellers list, maybe, but probably not then either. I’m just me, a down to earth, country girl, who loves what I do whether it be writing, accounting or ministering to children.

Now that’s the fun one. Have you ever ministered to children? Or even taught children? It’s is so rewarding and stressful at the same time. The rewarding times are watching their faces light up when they get what you’re saying, or in my case when they bring the Savior into their heart. Those smiling faces on Sunday and Wednesday can cheer you up or make you suspicious. Sometimes I can feel really under the weather and just their smiles can have a healing effect.  The stressful times can be too much sugar (Yeah I’ve made that mistake, learned lesson), snotty noses, bad manners, and lack of discipline. But if you love working with children the plus far outweighs the minus.

So hope all of you are well in the middle of this week and finding happiness in all you do. Just try to be positive and make even the most tedious task fun. It really makes a difference. 🙂

As always, good writing and May God Bless you.

Reflecting by the fire…

It’s a brisk, sunny southern morning here in Georgia. I’m enjoying my coffee while sitting by a cozy fire. A nice way to start my Saturday morning. My husband took our son fishing, so I’ve got the whole afternoon to work on cleaning the house, my manuscript and relaxing.

I woke this morning with a fresh new feeling. I feel like my writing muse is back. Hopefully it will continue so that I can finish “Rekindled Flame”.

This morning a whole new manuscript crossed my mind as I lay in bed not wanting to get out of the warmth of the blankets. The only problem is I have to finish the one that is on schedule and I have about eight more started. Funny how the writing mind works. One minute you’re only thinking about a manuscript and the next you’re working on eight at one time.

Well, as for me, I’m glad for the escape that my writing gives me. Sometimes in this busy world we need that to get by and other times we need it just to manage our stressful lives. Through my writing I can ride horses, run a ranch, go to exotic locations, and pretty much live out my fantasies. Don’t worry, nothing crazy, just a country girls dreams.

So, I hope this post finds all of you well, happy and content. Remember to never give up on your dreams because you only live once, so live the way God intended you to live through Him.

As always, good writing and May God Bless You!
