Today my guest author is Nic Tatano and I want to thank her for blogging with me today. Here is a little about her and her book It Girl.

It Girl High-Res Cover TatanoAuthorPhoto

1) What inspired you to write this book? I am a confirmed night owl and once had to fill in as a morning anchor for two months at a local TV station. It just about killed me. I thought it would be fun to share the hellish side of what many perceive to be a “glamour job.” And at times I did let the viewers know I hated mornings, though not to the extent Veronica does.

I decided to add a British love interest because I’d had so many “lost in translation” moments with my publisher, which is based in London. I got a kick out of some of the British slang and thought it might be fun to add that to the book. My favorite when visiting the UK was “mind the gap.” In New York, it would simply be, “Watch where the hell you’re going!”

2) What’s your favourite part of this book and why? When Veronica goes undercover as a French maid to get a big story when her seduction using a French maid costume gets interrupted. While this is fiction and over-the-top, it is typical of the bizarre stuff that goes on in the news business.

3) What is your philosophy on writing and life? On writing I like to wing it. No outline, no sticky notes, nothing. I get an idea for a plot and know how it ends but have no earthly idea how I’ll get there. I personally believe the entire story is in your subconscious and will come out along the way. That’s why stuff I write in Chapter One somehow becomes crucial at the end of the book. The muse knows.

I also believe that if you over-edit you take the pure voice out of your work.

On life… well, since I came close to death two years ago I’ve changed a lot. Take time to smell the roses. If you take your head out of your cell phone and look around there’s some incredible stuff to experience on this planet.

4) Name your three favourite books that you’ve written — feel free to list buy links.

Geez, that’s like asking a parent to pick his favorite child. Luckily I don’t have any kids, so here goes:

-Wing Girl: The romantic comedy that got me a book deal with HarperCollins will always have a special place in my heart. It was a blast to write.

-The Adventures of Jillian Spectre: A young adult paranormal book. No dystopia, no sex, no teens being shot with arrows. A positive look at the future from a kick-ass girl with incredible powers.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adventures-Jillian-Spectre-HarperImpulse-Romance-ebook/dp/B00ICCRP9W/ref=la_B00FER24S0_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1406575173&sr=1-4

-Twitter Girl: It’s a romantic comedy the combines my two favorite things: the news business and politics. (Not sure which one is sleazier.) This novel is way more sentimental than the others I’ve written. I actually got the idea for one of the male love interests from my late mother.

5) What are your goals for this year? I’ve got two more books to finish this year, which I am working on at the same time. I like bouncing between the two because they are so different.

Other than that, I really need to finish painting the house.

6) If you had to give one piece of advice what would it be?

It is never the wrong time to do the right thing.

“It Girl” Book Description:

Veronica Summer is stuck in the dream job from hell.

The spunky New York reporter is offered the network’s morning anchor position, but she doesn’t want it because she’s a night person. Then the network plays a trump card, promising her the evening anchor chair in three years. So the fiery redhead takes the plunge, with the ultimate gig waiting down the road.

Problem is, that road is filled with two am wake-up calls and the only social life she has is one with bats and raccoons. She quickly realizes she’ll never survive the grind and decides the only way out is to get fired by being her snarky self on live television.

And the ratings skyrocket.

Veronica becomes the nation’s It Girl, so the network makes her a celebrity contestant on its most popular nighttime dance competition show, Dance Off. While her journalistic credibility is shot to hell by the show’s skimpy costumes, she’s thrown into close contact with two incredibly attractive men; her dance partner and the show’s sarcastic British judge.

And she soon discovers that love is the ultimate gig.

What if the words stop…

I’ve been asked many times where the words I write come from. Most people come up to me and just simply ask, ‘What if the words stop coming?’ For a writer that would be horrible, a nightmare come true. But the funny thing about a writer’s brain, it runs on overdrive most of the time. Sometimes we might have a hiccup in the process, but the words flow continuously.

Some have asked how I work on so many books at one time. How do I keep focused enough on each one to make the individual stories work? **Smiling broadly** Well it comes from too many stories going through that if I don’t get them on paper as they go through I’m afraid my brain will explode. If an idea comes through for a new story, well it has to be written out. I love to sit with a pad and pencil and just let the words flow through me. It’s exhilerating, but sometimes when you have a deadline working you have to push the others to the side. Of course that story still nags at you constantly.

But then I wonder if one day the words might stop. Of course for me they’ve been coming at me since I was a teenager and that’s been a long time. No, I’m not saying how long, but it’s been a while. If one day I develop some sort of problem where the words stop I don’t know what will happen. It’s been such a big part of me to put a story together in my mind that I think I might stumble some.

Then again I get a lot of my inspiration from music lyrics, people watching and life, so I guess in my mind, I’ll always have a story coming through. But if the music stops, the people disappear and I stop living, then the story would probably stop. Life has added so many stories in my head that I don’t think I’ll ever run out of material. I’ve experienced life through so many eyes and lives that I always have a new spin on a topic that I’ve touched on before.

What if the words stop… Let’s just say I hope they never do. I’ve come to love my characters that flow in and out of my head. They’re a part of who I am and that may sound crazy, but if you’re a writer you know where I’m coming from. After you spend hours with a character and their life, well it’s as if they’re your best friend. A couple of my books touched me so much that I was an emotional wreck during the process, but the words flowed even as the tears and the memories that spurred the story on came crashing through. Some memories never stop flowing through and they conjure up many stories that fill the books I write.

So, have you ever wondered what would happen to you if the words stopped? Scary thought…

As always, good writing and May God Bless You…

Romancing September Across the World – Day 20 Susan Buchanan

Welcome to Day 20 of the 2nd Annual Romancing September Across The World Blog Tour. I’ve teamed up with Rosie Amber again this year. We’re promoting 30 awesome romance authors in 30 days. Help us out by cross promoting when you can and check out these authors.

Don’t forget to go over to Rosie Amber’s page and check out her page too.

Today my guest author is Susan Buchanan and I want to thank her for blogging with me today. Here is a little about her and her book The Dating Game.

Susan Buchanan thedatinggame

1) What inspired you to write this book?

I had a friend who was having a tough time after the break-up of a long-term relationship. She eventually joined a professional dating agency in Glasgow. The idea came from that, although none of the stories did!

2) What’s your favourite part of this book and why?

Wow, that’s a tough one. I love the Barcelona section as I used to live there and anyone reading it will know how much it means to me, but if there is a scene which provoked a lot of emotion in me, it was towards the end where Gill has to choose between two men. When I wrote the scene where she told the unlucky guy that she had chosen someone else, I cried.

3) What is your philosophy on writing and life?

I have a 16-month-old baby. I no longer have time to philosophise! I now have my own proofreading, editing and translation company, so I don’t have a great deal of free time, and my writing time has suffered this year as a result. I am in the phase where I am reading a lot, which I think you need to do to enable you to write well. I have so many stories to write, the issue is having the time. So, I need to finish the two novels I am part-way through and then get back to my schedule, even if the timeline has moved somewhat. Life? Be happy and enjoy yourself with your family and friends, whatever you’re doing.

4) Name your three favourite books that you’ve written — feel free to list buy links

Well, since I’ve only finished three so far…

These are in no particular order as I can’t choose which is my favourite. They are all special to me in different ways (sorry if that sounds twee, but they are!)

The Christmas Spirit – viewBook.at/Christmas

5) What are your goals for this year?

Well, I had wanted to finish my Christmas book, but barring a miracle, that won’t happen. I will, however, finish it by early 2015 so it’s ready. It’s possible I will launch two books in 2015, quite close together, as neither is going to be ready this year. I want to enjoy watching my gorgeous girl, Antonia, blossom from a toddler into a fully-fledged little girl, wrecking things and having tantrums (although if she could minimise the latter, I’d be even happier!) and I want my business, Perfect Prose Services, which I launched in March this year, to continue to be a success. Oh and come December, I aim to watch at least one Christmas movie each day.

6) If you had to give one piece of advice what would it be?

If you’ve got a dream – go for it.

Book Bio.

Emma Rose is now available!

Frontcoveremmarose

Good Friday morning! I’m excited to announce that Emma Rose is finally available. It’s been a long and harrowing journey, but she’s out. This was a book that brought about many changes. I’m ready to move forward with the next installment of the Women of Magnolia Hill Saga. It will be out in early 2015.

I hope you’ve checked out the Romancing September tour that Rosie Amber and I have been doing all month. It’s a great way to help support other authors and find lots of new books for your TBR list. Mine has grown so much that I should be good for a long time.

Another exciting thing to put out here is the upcoming western romance series that I’ll start as soon as I get a couple of days rest. Who am I kidding? I’ve already started the new series. It’ll be 5 books and each one is another aspect of the family of 5 Oaks Ranch. They’re full of family drama, humor, love, romance and just down right good clean, exciting fun. I’m so excited about this series. I’ll be posting little snippets as it goes. The covers are all completed, but nope, I’m not going to give anything away just yet, but I will tell you there’s a little something, something at the end of Emma Rose regarding this series.

Oh yeah, before I go back to writing, I have another announcement. Yep I’m full of them today. I have a Christmas romance in the works and it will be part of my Christian Romance series Lean On Him. This will be a very hard book to write, not that it’s not coming to me, but it’s about a hard subject. I’ll tell you more later, but let’s just say it will be a different side of romance from my normal writing. But it’s a subject that’s close to my heart. Ok, that’s enough of that for now.

I hope all of you have a great weekend and don’t forget to pick up a book. Be kind and give the author a review. We love hearing from our fans.

As always, good writing and May God Bless you…

Romancing September Across the World – Day 19 Nicky Wells

Welcome to Day 19 of the 2nd Annual Romancing September Across The World Blog Tour. I’ve teamed up with Rosie Amber again this year. We’re promoting 30 awesome romance authors in 30 days. Help us out by cross promoting when you can and check out these authors.

Don’t forget to go over to Rosie Amber’s page and check out her page too.

Today my guest author is Nicky Wells and I want to thank her for blogging with me today. Here is a little about her and her book Fallen For Rock.

Fallen For RockCover NickyWells

1) What inspired you to write this book?

My first three books (The ‘Sophie’ Series, aka The Rock Star Romance Trilogy) follows a heroine with a deep and embedded love for rock music in general, and a massive latent crush on a particular rock singer. Sophie adores Dan, even though she’s 28 and in a stable relationship when we first meet her. When Dan crashlands in her life again, she starts questioning what she really wants and what love really is. Over the course of the three books, we see her falling in and out of love with her ‘steady’ boyfriend, nearly get it together with Dan, get married to someone else, and then… well. You’ll have to read the books!

The motivation in this series was palpable from the first page. Sophie’s love for all things rock and all things Dan powered the story all the way through. In Fallen for Rock, I wanted to stand this on its head. I wanted to know how you could bring someone into the world of rock who positively hates the music and thinks it’s just a bit of noise with no skill. Moreover, I wanted to show how music can change your life (and love), and how important it is to be open to new experiences and, just occasionally, to cut loose and do something wild and wonderful. Enter Emily and her transformation!

2) What’s your favourite part of this book and why?

Ooooh good question. I’d have to say probably a scene right towards the end when Emily, in her new incarnation and new job, starts chatting up and twists around her little finger this massively important manager whom she wants to convince to sign Mike’s new band. Honestly, Emily totally ran away with that part of the book and came out with some things that I never dreamed she’d say. I was so proud of her, and it was fabulous fun to write because I really didn’t know how she would wing it!

3) What is your philosophy on writing and life?

I’m going to have to borrow a slogan here (even though I’m the least sporty person you’ll ever meet): JUST DO IT. Life isn’t a dress rehearsal. If there’s something you need to do, do it. Generally you’ll only regret the things you didn’t do, not the ones you did do. Or at least you’ll regret the things you didn’t do more. Same for writing. Nobody writes a perfect first draft, so my philosophy is: just get on with it, and polish it later!

4) Name your three favourite books that you’ve written — feel free to list buy links

Sophie’s Turn—because it got the story started.

Fallen for Rock—because it’s powerful and sexy!

Sophie’s Encore—because it gives the ending I’ve always wanted!

That’s not to say that Sophie’s Run (the middle book in the Trilogy) and Spirits of Christmas aren’t great books, because they ARE! But you did ask about my favourite babies…

5) What are your goals for this year?

I don’t have particular goals. I want to bring out my Christmas novella and finish a draft of Seven Years, but I’m not wedded to timelines (apart from the novella needs to be out before Christmas, obviously!)

6) If you had to give one piece of advice what would it be?

I’m assuming you’re asking advice for aspiring writers here? If so, my advice is this. Don’t think of your writing career in terms of one book, or even one series of books. If you want to be a career author, you need to produce books on a regular basis. That’s not to say you need to write four books a year, but you do need to bring your readers a steady stream of new material. So don’t put all your hopes for instant success and bestsellerdom on your first masterpiece, but consider the publication of your first novel as the first step on what will be a long and lovely journey!

Fallen For Rock

‘A thrilling and delicious story of love and self-discovery woven around a broken romance that will make you turn page after page and cheer to the end.’

Love, life, loyalties. Nothing stays the same when Emily gets drawn into the world of rock.

Glossy and sophisticated professional high-flyer Emily has no time for nonsense such as the rock music her ex-boyfriend Nate adored so much. Yet when she unexpectedly comes into possession of VIP tickets—access all areas—for new rock band phenomenon, MonX, she can’t resist the temptation.

The fateful gig turns into more than one night, and Emily finds herself strangely drawn to this new and unfamiliar glittery world. However, only weeks later, MonX and her own universe fall apart with devastating consequences for all. When MonX lead singer Mike appeals for her help, she reluctantly embraces a new opportunity. But she soon discovers that while she may be a rock chick after all, a groupie she is not… Or is she?

Just exactly where do her loyalties lie? And what direction will her life take now that she’s left behind everything she treasured?

Warning! Fallen For Rock contains some explicit content and strong language that may not be suitable for readers under eighteen years of age.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 18 E. L. Lindley

Welcome to Day 18 of the 2nd Annual Romancing September Across The World Blog Tour. I’ve teamed up with Rosie Amber again this year. We’re promoting 30 awesome romance authors in 30 days. Help us out by cross promoting when you can and check out these authors.

Don’t forget to go over to Rosie Amber’s page and check out her page too.

Today my guest author is E.L. Lindley and I want to thank her for blogging with me today. Here is a little about her and her book Dare To Lose.

Dare to Lose E.L.Lindley

  • What inspired you to write this book?

Just before I started on Dare To Lose, I read somewhere that writers were being discouraged from creating leading female characters over the age of 32. Apparently that is considered the cut-off point for what readers are willing to accept. It really annoyed me because, as a middle-aged woman, I want to read about people my own age with issues that I can identify with. I determined that my heroine, therefore, was going to be middle-aged and have just as many adventures as any young whippersnapper might have. I think I pulled it off because Dare To Lose is the book that women contact me about most, saying how much they enjoy the fact that Nicola is pushing 50 but still manages to give the bad guys a run for their money. As a society, I fear we place far too much emphasis on youth and it’s especially detrimental to women. We only have to look at the rise in the number of people opting for cosmetic surgery to see how ageing is perceived as a bad thing. The strange thing is, as a reader, I often feel that writers make their characters young but then give them personalities that seem much older.

  • What’s your favourite part of this book and why?

My favourite parts of the book are probably the scenes with Nicola and her mother, Valerie. Valerie is not a bad person but she’s very self obsessed and wasn’t a particularly good mother. Nicola’s childhood was chaotic but now that Valerie is in her 70s, Nicola finds herself in the parent role. Her mother has frittered away her pension and consequently has had to move in with Nicola. The dynamic between them is a combination of sad, funny and infuriating and I think lots of women who have a complex relationship with their own mother will identify with it. Nicola also has a best friend, Lizzie, who is quite similar in personality to Valerie and I really enjoyed writing the scene showing their friendship. My women friends are extremely important to me and strong women characters feature in all of my novels.

  • What is your philosophy on writing and life?

For me, writing is something that makes me happy so it is a force of good in my life. I think it’s important that we all embrace things that make us feel fulfilled, be that writing, cooking, sport or whatever. There are always people who will try and convince us that we’re not good enough or we’re wasting our time but, if something makes us feel good, then how can it possibly be a waste of time? Of course I hope that readers will enjoy my books but, primarily, I write because I love doing it.

  • Name your three favourite books that you’ve written — feel free to list buy links

Business As Usual will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first book I ever wrote. It also introduces the character of Georgie Connelly, who is my protagonist in the Georgie Connelly series.  viewBook.at/B005UGSFH4

I also like Dare To Lose because I think I’ve done a good job of creating a heroine who appeals to women of all ages. viewBook.at/B006HSEMCQ

Don’t Look Back, is another favourite as I have tried to create a heroine who starts off as someone who readers might not like very much but, hopefully, completely redeems herself in the course of the story.  viewBook.at/B006XXVHUU

  • What are your goals for this year?

In terms of writing, I’m currently working on the fifth Georgie Connelly novel and I also have a standalone novel that I’m about 75% of the way through. I’m hoping to have them both published before Christmas. In terms of life in general, I hope to carry on doing the things that are a source of joy in my life and encourage other people to do likewise. Life can be a hard journey and I don’t think it’s possible to ever have too many friends or enough joy in our lives.

  • If you had to give one piece of advice what would it be?

I would say follow your dreams and pursue whatever it is you need in order to feel happy and fulfilled.

DARE TO LOSE BOOK DESCRIPTION

For Nicola Mills, approaching middle age doesn’t seem so bad as she enjoys the settled, ordered life she has always dreamed of. Cracks start to appear, however, with the arrival of her mother, whose chaotic life threatens to overshadow Nicola’s routine. Life becomes even more uncertain when she loses her job but, encouraged by her friend Lizzie, Nicola embraces the opportunity to follow her dream and opens a seafront cafe. Fate it seems has other ideas though and, when one of her of her employees goes missing, Nicola is thrown into a dangerous world of crime and murder, which leaves her dreams in tatters.
Dare To Lose, is a novel about friendship, loyalty and strength in the face of adversity. By losing everything, will Nicola finally be able to live?

Romancing September Across the World – Day 17 Monica La Porta

Welcome to Day 17 of the 2nd Annual Romancing September Across The World Blog Tour. I’ve teamed up with Rosie Amber again this year. We’re promoting 30 awesome romance authors in 30 days. Help us out by cross promoting when you can and check out these authors.

Don’t forget to go over to Rosie Amber’s page and check out her page too.

Today my guest author is Monica La Porta and I want to thank her for blogging with me today. Here is a little about her and her book The Lost Centurion.

Monica La Porta The Lost Centurion_new design

  • What inspired you to write this book?

I’ve been wanting to write a series set in Rome for the longest time. There aren’t paranormal or urban fantasy series that are focussed on the Eternal City, and I’ve always thought that Rome is the perfect place for romance. Ancient and mysterious, elegant and decadent, but also joyous and chaotic.

  • What’s your favourite part of this book and why?

The part I liked the most in The Lost Centurion was describing Rome through the ages. For example, Marcus’s house changes from a one-story Roman villa to a Renaissance Palazzo, maintaining the core of its structure from the Imperial times. I spent weeks researching about daily life in Rome, what the Romans liked to eat, what kind of games they played, what they wore, how their society was structured. Only bits and pieces of that research went into the book, but I loved every minute of it.

  • What is your philosophy on writing and life?

Persistence. When I was a kid, I was told by a teacher that I was a good student, but I would never be any good at languages, especially English. The teacher’s words hurt me and stayed with me for a long time. Eventually, I decided it was in my power to prove myself I could do anything I wanted if I worked hard enough.

  • Name your three favorite books that you’ve written — feel free to list buy links.

Besides The Lost Centurion, I would name:

The Priest, because of its message of universal love http://www.amazon.com/Priest-Ginecean-Chronicles-Book-ebook/dp/B0075XAFWS

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Priest-Ginecean-Chronicles-Book-ebook/dp/B0075XAFWS

Marie’s Journey, because it was the first YA title I published http://www.amazon.com/Maries-Journey-Ginecean-Chronicles-Book-ebook/dp/B00HITE9A8

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maries-Journey-Ginecean-Chronicles-Book-ebook/dp/B00HITE9A8

The Immortal Greek, because I had to push my limits to write the larger than life character of Alexander http://www.amazon.com/Immortal-Greek-Immortals-Book-ebook/dp/B00MF0LAV6

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Immortal-Greek-Immortals-Book-ebook/dp/B00MF0LAV6

  • What are your goals for this year?

I am working on publishing the third and fourth book in The Immortals series before the end of the year. I am also participating in several anthologies that will be announced soon.

  • If you had to give one piece of advice what would it be?

Never give up and always believe in yourself.

Monica La Porta Bio:

Monica La Porta is an Italian who landed in Seattle several years ago. Despite popular feelings about the Northwest weather, she finds the mist and the rain the perfect conditions to write. Being a strong advocate of universal acceptance and against violence in any form and shape, she is also glad to have landed precisely in Washington State. She is the author of The Ginecean Chronicles, a dystopian/science fiction series set on the planet Ginecea where women rule over a race of enslaved men and heterosexual love is considered a sin. She has published the first four books in the series, The Priest, Pax in the Land of Women, Prince at War, and Marie’s Journey. She just released two new NA paranormal romances, Gaia, and Elios. She also wrote and illustrated a children’s book about the power of imagination, The Prince’s Day Out. Her published short, Linda of the Night, is a fairytale love story celebrating inner beauty. The Lost Centurion, and The Immortal Greek, the first and second title in The Immortals, a paranormal saga set in modern Rome, have just come out. Stop by her blog to read about her miniatures, sculptures, paintings, and her beloved beagle, Nero. Sometimes, she also posts about her writing.

The Lost Centurion blurb:

Marcus has sworn to avenge his wife’s death—even if it takes an eternity to hunt down the vampire who murdered her. Once a Roman Centurion, Marcus is now immortal and, for the past two thousand years, impervious to human emotions. Until the night he rescues Diana…

Diana knew nothing of the paranormal world until her transformation into a vampling, a newborn vampire entirely reliant for survival upon the distant and seemingly emotionless Centurion, who found her in the throes of changing. Her protector turned her without her consent, but at his untimely death, she becomes the distant and cold immortal’s responsibility.

The entire vampire community is determined to kill Marcus as he protects one of their own. While Marcus and Diana travel the Italian countryside, being chased by their enemies, Marcus must choose between avenging his dead wife or saving Diana from the same vampire who ruined his life. Romancing September Across the World – Day 16 Mary M. Forbes

Welcome to Day 16 of the 2nd Annual Romancing September Across The World Blog Tour. I’ve teamed up with Rosie Amber again this year. We’re promoting 30 awesome romance authors in 30 days. Help us out by cross promoting when you can and check out these authors.

Don’t forget to go over to Rosie Amber’s page and check out her page too.

Today my guest author is Mary M. Forbes and I want to thank her for blogging with me today. Here is a little about her and her book One Dance With A Stranger.

Mary M Forbes One Dance with a Stranger - Mary M Forbes

1) What inspired you to write this book?  I watched George Strait in Pure Country and listened to Alan Jackson’s CD ‘Who I Am’.  The whole story developed from the movie and the CD.  I often get inspiration from songs and ‘what if’ from watching movies or shows.

2) What’s your favourite part of this book and why? I love the last chapter, when Emily realizes her life is empty without love and especially without Wade.

3) What is your philosophy on writing and life? I want to give my readers an enjoyable few hours of escapism.  I think life has enough reality that it cannot harm anyone to dream for a bit and be happy regardless of what reality offers.  My motto is ‘In Dreams we can be anyone we want.’

4) Name your three favourite books that you’ve written — feel free to list buy links   I will always love ‘Hawk’s Gift’ (my first attempt) – a historical romance, set in the west during the Riel Rebellion – Canada’s civil war.

The buy link is on Amazon: – http://www.amazon.com/Hawks-Gift-Mary-M-Forbes-ebook/dp/B005HXD26Y/ref=la_B002UUEK4U_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1406295295&sr=1-2

I enjoyed the intrigue and mystery involved in ‘Alberta Wild Rose’ – another historical romance – set in the west, about a group searching for a legendary mine in the mountains.  The buy link is Amazon: -http://www.amazon.com/Alberta-Wild-Rose-Mary-Forbes-ebook/dp/B005HXD13I/ref=la_B002UUEK4U_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1406295496&sr=1-5

And my other favourite is One Dance with A Stranger – where my characters developed their own personalities and demanded their story be told.

5) What are your goals for this year?   The first part of the year was writing, editing and getting the first book in my Crystal Ridge series published.  Check – accomplished.  I want to finish the second ‘Sophisticated Cowboy’ this year as well.  I am attending a When Words Collide festival in Calgary in August as well as attending a family reunion in Saskatchewan.

6) If you had to give one piece of advice what would it be? In the whole scheme of life – how important is this?  I think people worry too much about what might or might not happen.  I would love to see people enjoy life more and worry less.

Bio: – Born and bred on western stories by Zane Grey, I grew up in the middle of nowhere Saskatchewan.  Although modern life intervened, I soon realized the similarities between my life and North American western past. From riding horses, playing cowboys and Indians with real Indians combined with the scenery of vast, open prairies and endless horizons I was living my dream.

Blurb on One Dance with a Stranger –   Emily feels it is important to hide her sordid past. Love has no part in her new life. Her job and her respectable fiance are achievements that she has no intentions of jeopardizing. No one knows she once posted for a nude magazine and she will do anything needed to keep it that way. Why would she even think of risking everything to follow her heart’s desire – charismatic, fickle Wade Hart? A man who knows all her dark, deep secrets?

Country singing idol, Wade doesn’t question why he is attracted to his brother’s fiancee. He just knows he will have her. He is used to getting whatever he desires. Today he wants Emily. Set in the ‘new west’ – Calgary – follow the twisted path of love and romance, too potent to resist.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 15 Laura E. James

Welcome to Day 15 of the 2nd Annual Romancing September Across The World Blog Tour. I’ve teamed up with Rosie Amber again this year. We’re promoting 30 awesome romance authors in 30 days. Help us out by cross promoting when you can and check out these authors.

Don’t forget to go over to Rosie Amber’s page and check out her page too.

Today my guest author is Laura E. James and I want to thank her for blogging with me today. Here is a little about her and her book Follow Me, Follow You.

Follow Me, Follow You Laura E James

  • What inspired you to write this book?

‘Follow Me, Follow You’ started life as ‘140 Characters or Less’, an idea sparked by my attendance to the inaugural Festival of Romance, in Watford, UK, 2011. I had Facebooked and tweeted with the fab author Carole Matthews, and met her at the Festival, where I assured her I was not a stalker. It was said in jest, but it started me thinking about the whole business of social media and ‘following’ someone famous…

  • What’s your favourite part of this book and why?

My favourite part is the end as it finishes exactly how I’d imagined when I first started writing the book.

  • What is your philosophy on writing and life?

I focus on what I can do, not what I can’t.

  • Name your three favourite books that you’ve written — feel free to list buy links

I’ve written two novels, but have short stories in a number of anthologies.

‘Truth or Dare?’ was my debut novel for Choc Lit, published under their Lite imprint. It’s a tale of passion and obsession and knowing when to do the wrong thing for the right reason.

http://www.amazon.com/Truth-Dare-Laura-E-James-ebook/dp/B00G3I4PHM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406128151&sr=8-1&keywords=truth+or+dare+laura+e+james

‘Follow Me, Follow You’ is my second novel for Choc Lit, and my first paperback, out now. It’s a story of learning how to live and love again.

http://www.amazon.com/Follow-Me-You-Laura-James/dp/1781891877/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406128189&sr=8-1&keywords=follow+me+follow+you+laura+e+james

‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’ is the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s recent anthology, in which I have a short story entitled ‘Bitter Sweet’, a gentle, romantic nod to the healing properties of chocolate. My story is in the extended digital version.

http://www.amazon.com/Truly-Madly-Deeply-Adele-Parks-ebook/dp/B00FBFJX52/ref=sr_1_6?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1406128234&sr=1-6&keywords=truly+madly+deeply

  • What are your goals for this year?

My writing goal is to complete a solid draft of ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’, my work in progress, and submit it to my publisher, Choc Lit, for their amazing tasting panel to review and hopefully approve.

  • If you had to give one piece of advice what would it be?

Writing advice: Write from the heart.

Life advice: From my friend and fellow Choc Lit writer, Sue Moorcroft ‒ avoid making enemies.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 14 – Jane Godman

Welcome to Day 14 of the 2nd Annual Romancing September Across The World Blog Tour. I’ve teamed up with Rosie Amber again this year. We’re promoting 30 awesome romance authors in 30 days. Help us out by cross promoting when you can and check out these authors.

Today my guest author is Jane Godman and I want to thank her for blogging with me today. Here is a little about her and her book Echoes In The Darkness.

Echoes Original Jane Godman

  • What inspired you to write this book?

I do love a good gothic romance. You know when you watch a scary film (usually through your fingers) and that character who is alone in the house goes into the attic (or maybe the cellar) to find out what the unexplained noises are? That’s why I write gothics. When we see those scenes in films, or read them in books, we usually switch all the lights on before we sigh with relief and say, “You wouldn’t do that in real life. You’d run screaming out of the door.” But we still love to watch or read those scenes…because they give us shivers.

But I wanted to update the gothic and that was my inspiration. Legacy of Darkness, my first Shivers novel, includes all of the classic gothic elements—a gloomy castle, an innocent heroine, strange characters, dark secrets and noises in the night. But it is also a ‘new gothic’. These have elements of the unexplained, but they are not paranormal romances. Generally, the heroine and heroine are human beings who may have paranormal experiences. Shivers have high levels of sensuality, but their strong gothic story line makes them much more than an erotic romance. My Shivers books are the best of both my favourite genres, they are historical gothics.

Echoes in the Darkness is my second Shivers book and is the sequel to Legacy of Darkness.

So my other inspiration was the mad, bad and definitely dangerous to know Jago family and my desire to keep telling the story of their dark legacy. Although the books do stand alone in the sense that they don’t have to be read in sequence, the three books in the series (the third book, Darkness Unchained, will be out in October 2014) are in chronological order from the 1830s to the 1920s.

  • What’s your favourite part of this book and why?

My favourite part of Echoes in the Darkness is Dita’s memory of a mad one night stand she had in Paris. She doesn’t even know the name of the man she slept with, but she has fallen in love with him. This is how they met…

Excerpt

I lay back on the velvet chaise longue while two men stood to one side of me, discussing my nipples. The conversation had been going on for some time and my left calf was cramping painfully. When I attempted to stretch my foot out, however, Maurice squealed in outrage. “Cherie! S’il vous plaît. Please, the pose you strike now is perfection, do not, I beg you, ruin it!”

I subsided, surreptitiously wiggling my toes when he wasn’t looking. He was, after all, paying me double my usual hourly rate for this private sitting, so it wouldn’t do to upset him.

“The colour and texture are quite divine, reminiscent of perfectly placed rose petals on cream silk,” Claude said pompously, regarding my errant breasts thoughtfully. “But the nipples should stand proud, and they will not stay that way.” He stuck his lower lip out sulkily and regarded me with an accusing stare.

“It’s too warm in here,” I pointed out for the third or fourth time. My head was thrown back over the curve of the chaise so that the heavy mass of my hair tumbled almost to the floor. Maurice had piled cushions behind me so that my back was arched, emphasising the contrast between the slenderness of my waist and the full curves of my breasts. I held two feathered fans, one shielding my face so that only my eyes showed above it, and the other teasingly positioned so that it didn’t quite cover my pubic bone.

The third man had not spoken since he entered the room. He stood in the shadows beyond the light of the open window, and all I had was the impression of height and a faint aroma of expensive cologne. Maurice and Claude had greeted him with fawning sycophancy, so I assumed he was a wealthy patron.

I heard the stranger move across the room. Whatever he was doing now, he was out of my vision, but, after some clattering around in Claude’s tiny kitchen area, he approached me. My boredom vanished instantly. I had heard men described as “beautiful” and dismissed the phrase as overly poetic. Suddenly, I knew exactly what it meant. This man’s masculinity was so perfect—so pure—that my breath caught in my throat just to look at him. His smile was as devastating as the first ray of sunlight breaking through storm clouds. I knew, beyond rational thought or reason, that this was a defining moment, a point from which there was to be no return. This man was going to change my life. Was it as simple as love at first sight? The cynic in me dismissed the notion. And I had more cause than most to be cynical about men. Nevertheless, I was severely jolted.

He came and sat on the edge of the chaise, his hip pressed into the curve of my waist. I had never seen eyes so unambiguously gold. The contrast of their brightness against the raven-wing darkness of his hair and tawny tint of his skin was stunning.

“This could hurt a little. But I think you might also quite like it.” He held up his hand to show me a glass full of ice, which he placed on the floor. The piece he held in his other hand was already starting to melt in the cloying heat of the Parisian afternoon.

I returned his stare challengingly over the top of my fan, and the grin deepened appreciatively. Cupping my left breast with a warm hand, he ran his thumb lightly over my nipple. It hardened instantly.

“Mais oui! But yes!” Claude cried out exultantly. “That is what I wanted! Exactement.”

The stranger was concentrating on caressing my breast and did not reply. His eyes remained locked on mine as, very gently, he lifted the piece of ice and used it to draw a circle around my already sensitised nipple. My back arched and I bit my lip as a maddeningly wonderful bolt of pain shot through me.

He moved his hand to my right breast and repeated the process. I wanted to scream. But I wasn’t sure if I wanted to scream at him to stop, or because I never wanted the velvet torture of his touch to end. “It’s funny,” he observed casually. “I thought from a distance that, because your eyes are so dark, they must be brown. But now I see they are the exact shade of the heart of a purple pansy. And,” he added, leaning closer so that Claude and Maurice couldn’t hear, “now you are aroused, there are thunderclouds of passion looming just below the surface.” His French was perfect, but there was a faint trace of an accent.

He rose abruptly, brushing back the lock of hair that flopped forward to caress his brow. “Just use the ice when you need to,” he instructed me, indicating the glass next to the chaise. “That should keep Claude here quiet while he gets his masterpiece started.” He began to walk away toward the door and I lay back, unable to speak. I was completely stunned by the effect he had on me. My nipples were throbbing painfully, a sensation that had nothing whatsoever to do with the ice. Pausing with his hand on the door handle, he flashed that incredible smile my way once more. But his words were directed at Claude, “Do tell our mutual friend I was looking for him. And that he can’t hide forever. I will find him.” Then he was gone.

Throughout the remainder of that sultry, cloud-dulled afternoon, my whole body thrummed with longing. Even Claude’s posturing and Maurice’s rattling, self-absorbed conversation could not pierce the bubble of my anticipation. A drizzling rain had begun to fall by the time I left the tiny attic apartment and stepped into a darkening evening. Sure enough, my golden-eyed stranger was lounging against a gatepost across the street. Just as I knew he would be. His hands were dug deep in his coat pockets, and a brooding, haunted look lowered his brow. I went and stood before him, so close that, when we both breathed out at the same time, our bodies touched. The spicy undertones of his cologne made my nostrils twitch appreciatively. He cupped my face in his hands, studying me intently.

“My God,” he said in English. “You are the most perfect thing I have ever seen.”

“Finish what you started,” I whispered, also in English. And, obligingly, he pulled me to him, crushing me against his chest and bruising my lips with the intensity of his kiss. Dragging me along with him by the hand, he propelled us with long, urgent strides down the narrow, cobbled street. Because we had to stop to kiss under every streetlamp, by the time we reached his apartment, I was soaked to the skin and half-crazy with lust.

  • What is your philosophy on writing and life?

With my writing, I’m happy to write. If my work is published, that’s fantastic. If people enjoy reading it, that’s amazing (and I love it when they tell me about it!). But, first and foremost, I write for me because, as cheesy as it sounds, writing satisfies and soothes me.

In life, I believe you have to make the best of what you have. I’m a naturally happy person, but sometimes you have to work at being happy and remind yourself of all the good things you have. There are times when it can be hard to do that, but you have to pick yourself up and keep going. In both writing and life it’s good to develop some ‘bouncebackability’.

  • Name your three favourite books that you’ve written — feel free to list buy links

That’s quite easy, as my first three Harlequin Shivers books are the only three currently available (although the others are coming soon!).

So they are:

LEGACY OF DARKNESS

1837 Cornwall, England

Orphaned, penniless and reduced to the role of lady’s companion, Lucy Alleyne is relieved when a distant relation spirits her away to Castle Athal. But gratitude soon gives way to fear—and unlooked-for pleasure.

The ancient Cornish castle is a dark monument to family, fortune and infamy. Within its walls, the Jago family keeps its wards close…and its secrets closer. As soon as Lucy arrives at her new home, she is drawn to Tynan, Earl of Athal. Although the young lord is handsome and caring, he is tortured by mental illness, like his father before him. They share a meeting of souls which is completely opposite to her very physical response to Tynan’s uncle, Uther: a commanding, seductive presence whose leonine power radiates from his every word and gesture.

These two Jago men have innocent Lucy enthralled: mind, soul and body. But if she remains within the poisonous castle keep, with its history of ill-starred passion and madness, a mere broken heart will seem a mercy.

ECHOES IN THE DARKNESS

Not betrothed, but beguiled.

In artistic circles she is the Divine Dita, Paris’ most sought-after nude model. But now she’s not so much posing as playing a role: fiancée to the next Earl of Athal. The charade is a favor to Dita’s friend, Eddie Jago, a dissolute painter…and the aforementioned heir. As deceptions go, it is innocent compared with what will come.

On the grim Cornish coast, from the ashes of a ruined castle rises the Jagos’ sumptuous new manor house. The fresh-hewn stone, however, cannot absorb the blood of centuries or quiet the echoes of past crimes. Dita struggles to decipher the family: the infirm Earl and his inscrutable wife; resentful Eddie; sheltered sister Eleanor. And Cad: the handsome second son whose reputation is spotless in business—scandalous everywhere else.

Drawn by friendship, ensnared by lust, Dita uncovers a sordid tangle of murder, desire and madness. It will lay her bare as no portraitist has done before.

Her employer, Gethin Taran, a man as remote and compelling as the mountains encircling his home, soon has Lilly intrigued and enthralled. But there is danger as well as passion in the valley, and its ghostly source begins to stalk Lilly’s nightmares….

  • What are your goals for this year?

My first goal is to see my historical romance series published. I wrote this series of books a few years ago and they were published by a small company that went out of business. I’ve now rewritten the books. I love the characters and the era (Georgian England—think men in cloaks and powdered wigs) so I would like to share them with a wider audience.

I am also writing a very dark romantic suspense series and my other goal is to finish that!

6) If you had to give one piece of advice what would it be?

When it comes to writing my advice would be to write the sort of books you want to read. There is no magic formula and, if you try to find one, you will only end up selling yourself and your potential readers short. Then be yourself and stay true to your story. Don’t try and make your book something it’s not just to get it published, or to please other people. Listen to readers, but also think about what the advice they give you is actually saying. Is it saying something about your writing or about their personal preference? You have to accept you can’t please everyone.

Oh, and stick at it. In your writing, and in life. As Winston Churchill said, “Never, ever, ever give up!”
