Romancing September Across the World – Day 30 – Marcia Meara

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 30 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

The 71 years of life tucked under my belt. I’ve seen, and lived through, enough adventures and misadventures to keep me writing until I’m about 112! I have lots of stories I want to tell, and am excited about doing so.

In second place would be all the hundreds upon hundreds of books I’ve read during those 71 years. Every kind of story, every style of writing, and all providing great inspiration for me now.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Marcia Meara lives in central Florida, just north of Orlando, with her husband of 29 years, four cats, and two dachshunds. When not working on her books and blogs, she spends her time gardening, and enjoying the surprising amount of wildlife that manages to make a home in her suburban yard.

At the age of five, Marcia declared she wanted to be an author, and is ecstatic that a mere 64 years later, she finally wrote Wake-Robin Ridge, her first novel. Now, making up for lost time, she has published two more novels, and has a fourth scheduled to be released in September 2015. Plus, she has published a small chapbook of poetry, Summer Magic: Poems of Life and Love, and her work has been included in six Silver Birch Anthologies.

If you live in the Central Florida area, I’m frequently out and about doing Meet the Author events at various local venues, and would love to have you stop by and say hello. Sign up for my newsletter to get my schedule.

Wake Robin Ridge

 Book Description

“A PHONE RINGING AT 2:00 A.M. never means anything good. Calls at 2:00 A.M. are bad news . . .  Someone has died. Someone is hurt. Or someone needs help.”

On a bitter cold January night in 1965, death came calling at an isolated little cabin on Wake-Robin Ridge. Now, nearly 50 years later, librarian Sarah Gray has quit her job and moved into the same cabin, hoping the peace and quiet of her woodland retreat will allow her to concentrate on writing her first novel. Instead she finds herself distracted by her only neighbor, the enigmatic and reclusive, but very good-looking, MacKenzie Cole, who lives on top of the mountain with his Irish wolfhound as his sole companion.

As   their tentative friendship grows, Sarah learns the truth about the heartbreaking secret causing Mac to hide from the world. But before the two can sort out their feelings for each other, they find themselves plunged into a night of terror neither could have anticipated. Now they must unravel the horrifying events of that murder so long ago. In doing so, they discover that the only thing stronger than a hatred that will not die is a heart willing to sacrifice everything for another.

A story of evil trumped by the power of love and redemption, Wake-Robin Ridge will transport you to the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and introduce you to characters you won’t soon forget.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 29 – Olga Núñez Miret

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 29 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

I’ve always loved books and reading and have always wanted to tell stories. Perhaps the book that l remember best from my childhood is ‘Little Women’. I was fascinated by the story of those women and knew I wanted to be like Jo and write. I’ve been writing since I was a teenager and although my stories have changed, my love for reading and writing hasn’t. Since I started publishing books and got to know many authors, the work of new writers is an endless source of inspiration. And of course, there are also stories people tell you, things that happen… But most of my stories have an element of ‘What if?’. With regards to ‘I Love Your Cupcakes’, due to my father’s illness I spent a lot of time at my parents’ and used to watch ‘Cupcake Wars’. Thinking about many of the cookery programs and how popular they were, I thought about setting a novel there.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Olga Day 29

Olga Núñez Miret is from Barcelona although now lives in the UK. She’s a psychiatrist who has always loved to read and write and now also does translations.

She has a PhD in American Literature, an MSc in Criminology, but her main interest is to tell stories. The Man Who Never Was is the first book she published and was followed by Twin Evils? a YA novella about sibling rivalry taken to extremes, Click Me Happy! a romantic novel with three endings to choose from, Escaping Psychiatry a collection of three noir stories with a psychiatrist as protagonist and/or victim, Family, Lust and Cameras a story of obsessions, voyeurism and “alternative” family relationships and I Love Your Cupcakes a sweet romantic novel set in the world of culinary TV contests. Her latest publication is a YA paranormal trilogy, Angelic Business. The book 1 in the series is called Pink Matters, and book 2 Shapes of Greg.

And Storm, the third of the partners of their bakery/coffee shop/bookshop/art gallery and ex-fire station, is an artist who is not a master in the art of love. How could they imagine that at the studio of the contest “Do You Have What it Takes to Be the Next Baking Star?” they’d find sexual harassment, cheats, fights and also love?

Romancing September Across the World – Day 28 – Jane Linfoot

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 28 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

My first novel was a happy accident, that happened when a friend from writing class asked me to co-write a book with her. Plotting for Beginners came out in 2006, and was a paperback best seller. It was in Waterstones, and Sainsburys, and even had it’s own window display at Heathrow Airport.

Writing romance novels happened by accident too, when I borrowed Kate Walker’s book on writing romance novels from the library. I was meaning to get some exercises for my writers’ group, but I read the whole book, and I was hooked. I used to work full time, doing up old houses, but after the property crash I suddenly found time to do the writing I’d always dreamed of.

I write full time now, and for me writing is one of those things – the more of it I do, the more I want to do. And these days every good book I read inspires me to write more of my own.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Jane Linfoot

I’m Jane Linfoot, and I write fun, flirty fiction, with feisty heroines and lots of heart.

I live in a mountain kingdom in Derbyshire, England, where my family and pets are kind enough to ignore the domestic chaos – happily, we’re in walking distance of a supermarket. For me, writing is cool because I get to wear pretty shoes instead of wellies. I love hearts, flowers, happy endings, all things vintage, most things french. When I’m not on facebook, and can’t find an excuse for shopping, I’ll be walking, or gardening. On days when I want to be really scared, I ride a tandem.

Jane Linfoot writes fun, flirty fiction, with feisty heroines and lots of heart. She lives with her family and pets in Derbyshire, and loves hearts, flowers, happy endings and all things vintage.

The Vintage Cinema Club

 Book Description

The Vintage Cinema Club

“A witty, warm-hearted romp through the lives and loves of three friends – with a cool retro vibe, and a sense of fun that will never go out of fashion.” – Debbie Johnson, author of the best-selling ‘Cold Feet At Christmas’.

Meet The Vintage Cinema Club….

Izzy is a wow at making unwanted things pretty, but with three brothers and her shabby chic furniture business to run she doesn’t have time to date. Could a fabulous French proposal change her mind?

Single mum Luce’s vintage bridal dresses are exquisite, but there’s no way she’s ever going to wear one or walk down the aisle for that matter. She’s a strictly no romance, one night kind of woman – or so she thinks…

Dida seems to have it all – a chocolate and banana cake recipe to die for, lovely kids (most of the time!) and a great lifestyle. But what good is a fabulous home, when your marriage has more cracks than a pavlova and your husband is having it off with half of Lithuania?

Three retro fabulous friends, in love with all things vintage, run their dream business from the faded grandeur of a rescued cinema. When that dream comes under threat, they’ll do whatever it takes to save it.

Fans of Lucy Diamond, Michele Gorman and Milly Johnson are going to love this heartfelt, funny story.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 27 – Jane Cable

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

Undoubtedly it’s place. Yes, I have a fascination for folklore which marbles my stories but at the end of the day the setting is what inspires me most. For The Faerie Tree is was the tree itself which made me think about the characters whose lives could revolve around it. The Cheesemaker’s House is set in the home I owned but never lived in (apart from through Alice, the narrator) and my current manuscript has Studland at its very heart.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

 Jane Cable

Thank you for taking the time to visit my author page. If you are a reader who likes their romance with a big twist of mystery and suspense then you’ve come to the right place.

If you have taken the time and trouble to post a review of one of my books, then thank you so much. Feedback from readers (good or bad) means a great deal.

My first novel, The Cheesemaker’s House, was published by Matador in September 2013 and tells the story of Alice, who moves to Yorkshire following the breakdown of her marriage and meets her new neighbours from the present and the past.
“I really loved the authorial voice – it really drew me in. But more than that I loved the fact that the initial mystery posed is one that I could not think of a possible solution for, so that really got me hooked.” Sophie Hannah
“Jane Cable’s first novel is intriguing from the first page, to the last.” Lizzie Greenhalgh, The Lady

My second book, The Faerie Tree, is a second chance novel also published by Matador. This time the mystery revolves around a couple who meet twenty years after a brief affair only to discover that their memories of it are completely different.
“Will keep you guessing right up until the end and maybe even beyond it.” Claire Dyer
“Well written, absorbing and original. Read and enjoy.” Margaret Graham

Following the success if these books I am now proud to be represented by Felicity Trew of the Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

At the risk of sounding like a giant cliché, life inspires me. Great stories are all around us. All we need to do is pay attention. It’s a pretty cool deal really! I’ll see something happening, or hear about something in the news and I’ll think, “what would happen if…” and I’m off. I think most authors are observers. We watch and listen to everything around us and that feeds our creative core. When it comes time to create a story we have a deep pool of stored information to draw from. Of course there is always the story idea that pops into your head when you least expect it. Those are the most fun.

I’m also inspired by other writers and great books. Like most writers I read a lot. When I get in a funk or I’m stuck in my writing, reading a good book by a great writer inspires me to get back to work.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

My biggest inspiration for writing has always been other people’s books. I fervently believe that in order to write you must read. And I mean read Everything!! Good books, and you know as soon as you pick one up, help you to become a better writer, and bad books again help you so you soon know how to avoid the pitfalls that are lurking there for all of us.

I do read reviews for other books, but I don’t always agree with them. By the same token, I am prepared to take criticism for my own books. And, of course, I NEVER agree with that!!!

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Annie Crux

I pop up on google and Wikipedia and on Amazon Books as Ann Jennings, Angela Arney, as well as Annie Crux. I know I’m very lazy, and I am trying to do better. I’m having a web page done, to let people know about me.

The Lavender House Mob

 Book Description

When widowed novelist Louise Gregory’s life is turned upside down, can she regain her peaceful home, and regain her trust in a man she thought she new?

Louise Gregory is happy enough living alone with her pets at rambling Lavender House in the New Forest, but her life is suddenly disrupted by an unexpected financial crisis and the appearance on her doorstep of her daughter Penny, with her two young children in tow. Thereafter Louise’s life turns upside down: a passer-by, Jack, knocks her off her bike but then comes to her rescue by offering to pay over the odds if she lets him stay; her sister Jane is suffering a mid-life crisis; Penny’s strong-minded mother-in-law, Maggie, arrives; and her home, once a haven of peace and quiet, descends into an hilarious, clamorous B&B. Despite herself, Louise is attracted to Jack, but, just as quickly as he had arrived, he disappears. Confused and irritated by her dysfunctional family and the feelings Jack has aroused, Lavender House stands as the only constant in Louise’s life, but then her peace is shattered once again. How can she trust a man she thought she knew? With characters who leap off the page and grab your heart, this story will leave you smiling.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 24 – Lorraine Jenkin

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

Without trying to presume that I have anything in common with Dickens in any way, a big inspiration for me has been Mrs Havisham in Great Expectations. I was just so excited by her character, the storyline of which I’d never come across before. Romantic novels sometimes suffer from being a little predictable, and I desperately try and steer away from that. I’d love to have written about Mrs H, but decided early on that if I start writing about a character that I’ve read about somewhere before, I stop, delete and go back and start that character again. That’s why characters like Skinny Twat and Big Eve were such a pleasure to create.

I also love sentences that make me suddenly stop reading and go back and read the paragraph again to make sure I’ve understood it properly. I remember the first book that did this for me was Gone With The Wind. Margaret Mitchell suddenly dropped in that someone had died and I felt as if I needed to run next door and check that it really said that, and I had read it properly. I think to have that kind of twist in a storyline is a really important aim for a writer.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

 Lorraine Jenkin

I started writing my first novel after having had one of those “life moments” and decided that if I ever wanted to be a writer, I had to actually write. I packed in my job and headed off to the wilds of South America with little more than a tent and a toothbrush. By day I would walk across the Argentine Pampas, being stared at in amazement by more sensible people in cars and buses and as night fell, I would hide my tent behind a few bushes and try to forget that there were still pumas out there…
In that grotty little tent that I sometimes shared with mice, ferocious biting insect thingies and a fox who crashed in one night and stole all my food, I wrote Chocolate Mousse and Two Spoons – a tale of love, life, skinning rabbits and eating cake.
I have since followed this with Eating Blackbirds – a novel based around a man who has spent his adult life saving his money in the most ingenious of ways as he waits for his Big Adventure. As he nears early retirement, the Big Adventure starts to happen…
My third book, Cold Enough to Freeze Cows, was so named after I had been jotting down Welsh idioms – unfortunately, my writing was a bit messy and so refering to it months later, I got it wrong… The book should, technically, have been called Cold Enough to Freeze Crows, but after much deliberation, I decided to invent a new idiom and stick to the Cows – after all, in the book, the winter in Mid Wales farming country was very, very cold…

My style of writing is perhaps difficult to categorise (although everyone says this, don’t they?) I don’t think it is traditional Chicklit – simply because the characters in my books tend not to be chicks, but are welly-wearing, ruddy-cheeked, occasionally hairy-arsed folks who have adventures in the hills. It is said to write about what you know and I know a lot more about tramping over mountains in a lumber shirt and boots than I do about carrying this season’s Chanel bag to my high-flying job. I doubt that I have ever been classed (accurately) as a chick, and I think my books reflect this…
Whatever its category, they have been described as being “witty, clever, fun and sad” (TV Presenter Miranda Krestovnikoff) and “a novel to delight in – starting with its ability to make this reviewer laugh out loud” (Western Mail).

Whatever they are, I hope that you enjoy them!

Chocolate Mousse and Two Spoons

 Book Description

Lettie Howells has hit a new low. This is the last, the very last, time her soon to be ex is going to leave her counting the bruises. Her housemates and supersorted sister persuade her that she’s not going to find the man of her dreams among the tourist traffic in Lyme Regis and she duly sends off her ad to the Lonely Hearts columns. From a motley crew of respondents she selects Doug – a jolly but ‘once-bitten’ hunk of a Welsh forester.

But the path of true love does not run smooth: there are two whole communities of friends and relations to muddy things up.

Though her day job sees her serving tea and cake, Lettie yearns to paint. A trip to Doug’s home town provides a new canvas and a surprising brush with fame…

“Witty, clever, fun and sad – couldn’t put it down! Miranda Krestovnikoff” (BBC’s Coast)

“This sweet romantic story is flavoured with an unexpectedly strong cast of characters… a case of expecting light fluffy chocolate mousse and getting so much more.”

  Bethan Darwin

Bethan Darwin was born in Toronto but brought up in the Rhondda Valleys in South Wales. She studied law at King’s College London and worked as a solicitor in London for a number of years before eventually returning to Wales in 1998. Bethan works full time as an employment and boardroom law solicitor at law firm Thompson Darwin.

Bethan also runs the women’s networking group Superwoman which raises funds for various charities through its events. She is listed in the Lawyer Magazine’s Hot 100 Lawyers in the UK for 2010.

Bethan always said she wanted to write a book some day but it wasn’t until she was about to hit forty and while on maternity leave with her second child that she actually got round to sitting down and doing some writing. Her first novel Back Home was published by Honno in March 2009 and her second novel Two Times Twenty in October 2010. She is currently working hard to get a third novel finished in time for publication in July 2016.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 22 – Hilda Vaughn

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 22 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

I have always been fascinated by women’s historical fiction and when I read this I really wanted to see it back in print again. Vaughan has been neglected in critical terms and this is a very sophisticated, well-written and thoughtful novel. The frustrations Laetitia faces in 1866 must have resonated very strongly with readers in 1926 when women were still fighting to get the vote on equal terms with men (that didn’t happen, of course, till 1928). And I think they still resonate with us today when we still face discrimination even if it’s not so blatant– we can identify with her desire for both more freedom and a romantic love affair.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Diana-Wallace editor of Here Are Lovers

Born in Builth Wells, Hilda Vaughan (1892-1985) published eleven novels, two plays and a number of short stories, the majority of which are set in Wales. This new edition of Here Are Lovers (first published in

1926) includes an introduction by Diana Wallace, Professor of English Literature at the University of Glamorgan.

 Book Description

‘A little tragedy… of two races and two traditions.’

When the beautiful and bookish squire’s daughter, Laeti tia Wingfield, meets impoverished would-be scholar Gronwy Griffith, it seems as if both their romantic dreams could come true. But in the turbulence of

1866 and the Second Reform Bill, the gulf between rich and poor is all but impassable, and as Gronwy is the son of a Welsh farmer, a tenant of Laetitia’s Anglicised father, any relationship between the two seems doomed. As personal and political attitudes harden on both sides, events begin to veer dangerously out of control.

In this ironic analysis of the dangers of romanticism, Hilda Vaughan captures the tedium of life for a Victorian young lady and explores the tensions between class, gender and nationality in this divided Welsh and English society.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 21 – D.E.L. Connor

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 21 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

My biggest inspiration comes from my experiences and childhood. Most of my book ideas evolve from something that happened, or I witnessed in my life. In fact, the Spirit Warriors series evolved from Native American legends I learned growing up in Montana, and from the Alabama Coushatta tribe here in Texas. The adult romance books I am writing were inspired by my nursing career! I have to write about it since only my nursing friends let me tell them about my day at the office. LOL

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

D.E.L. Connor

Della Connor (D.E.L. Connor) was born in South Dakota and raised in Southeastern Montana where she acquired a keen appreciation for Western and Native American culture. She moved to Texas as a young adult and acquired her honorary Texan status. She became a registered nurse, a nurse practitioner and eventually earned her PhD in nursing. She still works as a nurse educator and as a nurse practitioner. Her nights and weekends, however, are filled with her stories and books. Her first book, “Spirit Warriors:The Concealing,” was published by Booktrope Publishing in November of 2014. The second book in the series “Spirit Warriors: The Scarring will be available July 21, 2014. The Spirit Warriors series will consist of five books and a prequel.
The Spirit Warriors story evolved from a short story she wrote for a college English class in the early 1990’s. The professor read it, loved it and asked her to stay after class and discuss it. During this discussion, he told her that a “dark” story like hers, that was written for older children, would be unmarketable and unsaleable. The story kept floating around in her mind. Finally, J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyers and others stepped forward with amazing “dark” stories to create a new genre called Young Adult. The time was finally right for her book. She wrote book 1 in two weeks. It took another year and a half and about a 150 queries all with an “not interested” for her to find a publisher. She found Booktrope and as they say, it’s all history.
