Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour – Day 10 Lizzie Lamb

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 10 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

I would say, without doubt, the excellent literature/history based education I received, and movies and books I have read. I become so immersed in them that when I’ve finished I want to rush back to the keyboard and start writing something of my own. It goes without saying that I am referring to the good examples of both genres. Although, if I watch a bad movie or read a poorly constructed book I find myself mentally editing and re-writing them. Anyone else do that? Overall, however, the biggest inspiration for me is – myself! That’s not as vainglorious as it sounds . . . Because of other commitments, I started my writing career later than I would have liked – and I have years of lost time to make up. That’s what spurs me on, allied to the success I’ve had self-publishing my novels. Life is finite and I want to feel at the end of it that I’ve written the books I want to write and have done my very best. As I say on my website, life is not a rehearsal, if you have a dream – go for it.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Lizzie Lamb

Life is not a rehearsal
If you have a dream – go for it.

After teaching her 1000th pupil and working as a deputy head teacher in a large primary school, Lizzie decided it was time to leave the chalk face and pursue her first love: writing. She joined the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s New Writers’ Scheme, honed her craft and wrote Tall, Dark and Kilted (2012), quickly followed a year later by Boot Camp Bride. Lizzie loves the quick fire interchanges between the hero and heroine in the old black and white Hollywood movies, and hopes this love of dialogue comes across in her writing. Although much of her time is taken up publicising Tall, Dark and Kilted and Boot Camp Bride, she has published a third novel SCOTCH ON THE ROCKS and started research for number four. Lizzie is a founding member of indie publishing group – New Romantics Press. In November 2014 they held an Author Event at Waterstones High Street, Kensington, London the icing on the cake as far as they are concerned – and a fitting way to celebrate their achievements. As for the years Lizzie spent as a teacher, they haven’t quite gone to waste as she is building up a reputation as a go-to speaker on the subject of self-publishing.

With Scottish, Irish, and Brazilian blood in her veins, it’s hardly surprising that Lizzie Lamb is a writer. She even wrote extra scenes for the films she watched as a child and acted out in the playground with her friends. She is ashamed to admit that she kept all the good lines for herself. Luckily, she saves them for her readers these days. Check out her reviews, they speak for themselves.

LIZZIE HAS BEEN SHORTLISTED FOR THE NEW TALENT AWARD AT THE PRESTIGIOUS UK FESTIVAL OF ROMANCE. SHE WAS NOMINATED FOR THE OPENING CHAPTERS OF BOOT CAMP BRIDE.

Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour – Day 9 F.J. Thomas

Now on to today’s featured author, F.J. Thomas

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

Real life experiences! I’ve always said the horse industry is like a soap opera, and the rodeo industry even more so! Being a competitor and a judge, my life connects with so many people and stories that wind up in my books as pieces of characters or plots. It’s a great life and it’s definitely fueled my writing more than anything else.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

FJ Thomas

A cowgirl at heart, F.J. Thomas resides in east Tennessee on her horse farm with her husband Steve and their menagerie of horses, cats, and dogs. Working full time in the healthcare industry, F.J. spends the rest of her time judging open horse shows and competing in anything from huntseat to barrel racing and ranch events every chance she gets.

F.J. started writing in high school and never looked back. She’s written articles that have appeared in America’s Horse and Hoofbeats. Her real life pursuit of the cowgirl lifestyle has provided plenty of first-hand experience and inspiration for writing.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 8 – E. L. Lindley

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 8 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, E. L. Lindley

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

Without a doubt the biggest inspiration for my writing has been reading. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love to read. The local library was my second home as a child and I can still remember the sheer joy of being given access to places and people that were not a part of my everyday life. Reading, I’m certain, gave me the impetus to travel and meet people. That’s why it makes me so sad that reading is on the decline amongst young people. I work in schools and I meet so many teenagers who have never read a book and I think this is reflected in their lack of aspirations and perhaps more importantly lack of empathy. It seems to me no coincidence that, as people read less; our society seems to become less tolerant and more prone to violence. Schools in the UK are not allowed time on the curriculum to invest in reading as everything is so exam driven and this to me is where everything has gone wrong. Literacy and emotional skills are so poor that people can’t communicate with each other effectively. Reading for pleasure is seen as a waste of time, when in fact it enriches our lives inestimably. I like nothing better than to lose myself in someone else’s story and I particularly like stories that are part of a series. I suspect this is because it really does start to feel like there is this whole alternate world that you can immerse yourself in. That’s what I aim for in my own writing. If I can draw someone in and keep their mind off the stresses and strains of their own life for a couple of hours then, for me that’s a job well done.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

E.L. Lindley

E.L. Lindley is an indie writer and general lover of books in all of their forms. She has written numerous contemporary novels, including the Georgie Connelly series as well as standalone novels. When she is not writing, she is devouring the works of other writers and is delighted by how indie publishing has thrown open the world of publishing. She sees it as a win win situation, allowing writers to publish their work, whilst providing readers with a richer and more varied choice.
Lindley has always loved writing but produced her first full length novel, Business As Usual, when she decided to move on from her career as an English teacher. She now supplements her writing by working on a free-lance basis. This also affords her time to travel and she has been fortunate enough to have travelled extensively throughout the world, using her experiences as a source of inspiration for her writing.
She currently resides in Sheffield in the UK but has lived and worked in many places including, London, Oxford, Southampton, Cheltenham and Brighton. She also studied for a couple of years at the University of Arlington in Texas and has consequently made many extended trips to the USA to visit and stay with friends. Her novels reflect this and tend to incorporate both sides of the Atlantic.
Lindley writes in a style which is both light-hearted and fun but with serious undertones, often tackling gritty subjects. In all of her novels, the characters reflect her belief in humanity and the fact that the human spirit will always prevail, regardless of the situation. Lindley’s primary goal is to entertain people but she is happy to take any response that she can get.

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

– Personal experiences have given me a lot of inspiration. But the biggest inspiration has been observing life and love around me and having my heart so filled that it needs an outlet. Poetry has been that outlet.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Pamela Beckford

I started writing poetry in 2013 and haven’t stopped since. It is still hard to think of myself as a poet (or a writer), but I am.  I find that writing poetry has been a great release for me. I have been a non profit executive for over 15 years and am passionate about my job, even though it is extremely demanding. I have one grown daughter and an adorable young grandson who live way too far away from me.

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

The biggest inspiration for me is music or sound. A lyric can set me on a writing binge or even the crack of lightning can put me in a paranormal mood. I love a good storm to write to.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

V.Steele

  1. Steele is an author with romance on the brain. She spans several romance genres from contemporary to historical to paranormal. Most of her writing is more for the over 18 crowd. Steamy romance and gorgeous men fill the words coming from her fingers.

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

My love of the island where I live, most probably. Jersey is very pretty and although the island is only nine by five miles in size there is a huge social buzz in the island with a lot happening here like boat shows, the Battle of Flowers, an annual air show, Jersey Live/Groove de Lecq/Folklore music festivals and this year at the end of September the island is holding its first literary festival where I’ve been asked to give a talk, I can’t wait. We’ve also got our very own local hero, Superman. Well, the actor Henry Cavill is from the island and comes back often. I’ve seen him walking through town and my sister met him when she was out with a friend recently. (He’s very similar in looks to Sebastian Fielding, the hero in my second book, A Jersey Affair).

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Georgina Troy Author jpeg

Georgina Troy lives in Jersey, an island fifteen miles off the coast of France. She’s a hopeless romantic, always falling in love with heroes real and imagined. Jersey has so much scope for stories, with beautiful wind-swept beaches and intriguing inhabitants, and when Georgina realised that no one else wrote romances set there, she decided she had to provide some. Romancing September Across the World – Day 4 – Michelle Betham

Now on to today’s featured author, Michelle Betham.

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

As far as auhtors are concerned, it’s definitely got to be the likes of Jilly Cooper and Jackie Collins – both queens of escapism in my eyes. Reading their books inspired me to create my own brand of escapism, something that, hopefully, can transport the reader to a whole other world. That’s all I ever wanted to do with my writing – give people the chance to escape for a little while. And if I’ve managed that with even just a handful of people, then I’ll be more than happy.

But inspiration comes in all forms, and for me, music is and always has been a huge inspiration for me. I can hear a song, listen to a lyric, and all of a sudden a story will start to form. Music has helped me through many instances of writer’s block, it’s even helped inspire entire books I’ve written. I’m one of those authors who makes playlists for their books, and I have to have music on in the background when I write. I can’t write in silence. So, for me, music is extremely important. It’s definitely a HUGE inspiration for me.

Michelle Betham - New

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Michelle Betham is an ex-media technician turned author of hot, edgy, gritty romance, usually involving rock stars, sports stars, and bikers. But not usually all in the same book. Yet. She is both self-published and published through HarperImpulse, a division of HarperCollins Publishers.

Addicted to binge-watching TV dramas she struggles to think of a life before Netflix, loves rock music, tattoos, spicy food, and Keanu Reeves – a crush that’s lasted over twenty years, and one she blames entirely on ‘Point Break’…

Her dream is to ride a Harley. And visit Las Vegas… And be able to eat any amount of chocolate without putting on weight…

She lives in County Durham, north-east England, with her husband and West Highland Terrier, where she can be found most days drinking tea and making up stories.

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

While I was growing up, I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy.  I was hooked on shows like “The Twilight Zone” and “The Outer Limits.”  Later, I consumed novels by LaVeryle Spencer, Nora Roberts, and Belva Plain as well as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and John Jakes.  These authors inspired me in different ways, but they all had one thing in common: The ability to tell a good story and make me suspend my disbelief.  When I started writing in earnest, I strove to develop the same skills.  Even though I still don’t measure up, they helped me set the bar higher.

LINDA-L Williams

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Linda Lee Williams writes “contemporary romance with a paranormal twist.”  Her stories revolve around imperfect characters, their families and friends, and a host of life issues.  Currently, she has four published novels and is part of a short-story anthology.

After moving to Denver from Chicago, Linda taught creative writing classes and formed a writers’ group.  An outdoor enthusiast, she enjoys hiking, biking, and birding.  She loves critters of all kinds.  During her journeys she’s called Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, Missouri, and Colorado home.  Wherever she roams, she finds inspiration in her surroundings.

Summertime and feeling it!

small_3905010862

Good morning! We’ve made it halfway through the week… It’s been a really crazy couple of weeks. For one the heatwave that we’re in here in the south is almost too much! With the high temps and really high humidity, you walk outside for just a minute and you’re soaked. Where’s the rain when you need it? Although my family says I’m crazy, I’ve been completing my 4 mile walks three evening a week and yes about one mile in I’m questioning myself. But I’m on a diet and exercise is part of it.

Another thing which is awesome, I’ve received two wonderful reviews of “Ridge”. One came from one of Rosie Amber’s review squad, which by the way is a great team to get to review your book. Here’s the wonderful review:

By Lynn F. on June 6, 2015

Format: Kindle Edition

This is a love story that follows Ridge Cauthen. He is the eldest son of the Cauthen clan. Ridge fought in the war in Iraq. He is now back home and working on his family’s ranch. He by chance meets the new Veterinarian, Mallory. Ridge is dealing with PTSD from his military service. PTSD that includes nightmares, flashbacks and mood swings. Not an ideal time to try and make someone fall in love with you. My favorite part of this story was the amount of love, patience and forgiveness Ridge is shown by his family and friends. I would hope all Veterans would receive the same treatment. I’m not going to tell you if Boy gets Girl you just have to read it for yourself 🙂
Then two weeks later I received an email from Reader’s Favorite stating that I had a review posted and maybe it’s not a big deal to some, but to me it’s really cool to have that emblem to put on your book. Here’s this review:
5 stars!

In Ridge by Stephanie Hurt, meet an ex-soldier who is struggling through life with PTSD, until the day he meets ‘the One’ and his world turns upside down. Ridge is the oldest Cauthen boy. He grew up in a big, happy family. Ridge is kind and caring, always looking out for his younger siblings and others who need help. So when the time came, he enrolled in the army and served his country. But two years in Iraq broke him. There is so much a kind heart can take, and his heart has taken and seen enough.
Now he is back home and working at the family ranch. Getting away from the war didn’t help much. He is still fighting off the enemies in his mind. Every night is a struggle with nightmares, but they never end. His family loves him and is kind to him, but how much longer are they going to stay that way? When luck brings Mallory (a new vet in town) to him, he is not sure he wants to have her in her life. Can she truly love him? Can she accept him with all his broken parts inside?
Ridge by Stephanie Hurt is a novel that will fill your heart. You will feel so much compassion and kindness for Ridge that you will tear up. Ridge is such a nice guy; he is kind and very sweet. This novel showed how pointless wars have destroyed the lives of many men and how they are suffering because they pledged to protect their country. When you sit down to read the novel, keep a tissue box nearby because you will need it. A really good novel.

And I got this nice label for my books: 5star-flat-hr

So, this made my month, but then it got even better! How could it get better you might ask, well, I received an email that a bookstore about an Hour & a half from me asked me to come do a book signing, which made me smile. We’re working on a date in September, but I’ll give more info as it comes.

It’s just been an exciting couple of weeks which kept the really hot weather even hotter because with the excitement comes major hot flashes (Wink-Wink) don’t you just love those ladies!

So, how’s your summer going so far? Is it hot where you are or for my friends across the globe how’s your winter?

As always, good writing and May God Bless You…

Day 30 of the Romancing September Across The World Blog Tour

Image

Welcome to Day 30 of the Romancing September Across The World Blog Tour. The question I put out to all of these authors was “What challenges do you face in writing romance in today’s society?” I can’t believe it’s the last day. It’s been a great tour, thanks to all the great authors that participated. Thanks ladies!

Don’t forget to go over to Rosie Amber’s page and check out her page too. I’ll put the link at the bottom of this post.

Today my guest author is Cynthia Harrision and I want to thank her for blogging with me today. Here is a little about Cynthia and her book Blue Heaven.

What Challenges do you face writing romance in today’s society?

My answer to that question is some of the things that publishers (not my publisher, they are the best!) think readers want and so we romance writers must write them even if it is out of our comfort zone. A good example is the “condom mention” which to me always seems awkward, stops cold the momentum of a hot scene.

Biography

Cynthia Harrison

Cynthia Harrison had already published one novel “Sister Issues” through Amazon’s Kindle Digital Platform as an eBook when The Wild Rose Press offered her a contract for her second novel “The Paris Notebook” available in print and eBook editions from a variety of booksellers, including Amazon.

Set at the popular 99 cent price point, “Sister Issues” comically illuminates the relationship of half-siblings Cher and Ariel. Spoiled younger sibling Ariel thinks “half” means she gets half of everything that belongs to Cher. Cher’s not perfect either, and both sisters make mistakes as they seek their true hearts’ desires.

“The Paris Notebook” is part campus romance, part comic caper. Jack and Deena, two teachers sharing an office, fight their attraction all year. Then Deena’s rock star ex steals a notebook of Deena’s poetry, claiming the words are his original lyrics. Jack offers to help Deena get back her notebook, and soon they act on the desire that has been building for two college terms.

The award winning “Your Words, Your Story” Harrison’s non-fiction manual for writers, again at that great 99 cent price, is available in print and Kindle editions. The text is part memoir, part instruction manual, for writers at all levels. Harrison uses the text in the popular creative writing classes she teaches at her local community college.
Harrison has been posting writing-related entries at “A Writer’s Diary” since 2002 at http://www.cynthiaharrison.com. Her work has been published in national magazines, journals, and anthologies. She has been a staff reviewer for “Romantic Times” and “Publishers Weekly.” Cindy’s poem “Africa” recently won an excellence award from the heritage organization Detroit Working Writers and her short prize-winning memoir “Snow Day” has been anthologized in “Cup of Comfort for Divorced Women.”
An avid Tweeter (CynthiaHarriso1)and Facebook fan (Cynthia Hines Harrison) Harrison is busy at work on her next novel. She loves to hear from readers and writers. Email her at cindy@cynthiaharrison.com.
