Romancing September Across the World – Day 13 – Margaret Cullingford

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 13 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

The short answer is the stimulation and enjoyment of reading all sorts of books.

Before I learnt to read, my youngest aunt loved to read to me, except when I asked to hear more of The Water Babies. Aunt Ede preferred fairy tales or any Beatrix Potter. I loved those too but I wanted to know what happened to Tom.  All her life Aunt read only romance so what she probably hated most in The Water Babies was the ending:

“And of course Tom married Ellie!”  My dear child, what a silly notion!

I still have the self-same copy of The Water Babies Aunt read from. I’ve loved books forever, couldn’t wait to learn to read. I spent hours curled in a cavernous armchair, like most of my generation, immersed in Enid Blyton, Richmal Compton, the classics – Alice in Wonderland, Treasure Island, Three Musketeers. I thought, one day I would like to write a book, even tried to write Secret Seven-type stories. Finally, after an exceptionally long interval, I wrote two books in fact.

What sort of book(s)? Dark romance, Lizzie Lamb says.  Monica, in my first published novel says, “I don’t want to get married.  Not ever.  I want to live”. Looking back, may be The Water Babies has a lot to answer for.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Windswept, Moi?
Windswept, Moi?

Margaret Cullingford, Mags to her friends, lives in Leicestershire, England with her forbearing husband and a temperamental tortoiseshell cat. Having made a timely escape from the rumpus of a university department, Mags realized a long-term ambition to write fiction, and in the process discovered, to her delight, she could create uproar she was able to control.

Mags published her debut novel Last Bite of the Cherry in 2012. Twins of a Gazelle is her second, published this year. Both have a similar theme. Clever woman, emotionally naïve, initially makes disastrous choice of man before meeting ‘The One’, not the conventional Girl-Meets-Boy love stories, but about love nevertheless. She is half-way through writing her as yet untitled third novel which veers towards mystery and suspense, a direction she found unable to resist.

Mags Cullingford, along with June Kearns, Lizzie Lamb and Adrienne Vaughan, is a member of the New Romantics Press an indie publishing collaboration.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 12 – Monica La Porta

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

The biggest inspiration for my writing is the knowledge of my mortality. I am one of those persons who hope to leave a lasting trace of our passing. Every morning, when I wake, my thoughts go to all the people I’ve lost recently, and that makes me want to live life at its fullest. Being a full-time author is a dream come true, and something I keep working on every day. Even when sales are down, reviews are scathing, and I struggle with every word I write, I keep hitting the keyboard, knowing that there isn’t anything else I’d rather do but telling tales about worlds that only exists in my mind.

 Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Monica La Porta

Monica La Porta is an Italian who landed in Seattle several years ago. Despite popular feelings about the Northwest weather, she finds the mist and the rain the perfect conditions to write. Being a strong advocate of universal acceptance and against violence in any form and shape, she is also glad to have landed precisely in Washington State. She is the author of The Ginecean Chronicles, a dystopian/science fiction series set on the planet Ginecea where women rule over a race of enslaved men and heterosexual love is considered a sin. She also published two other series: the futuristic love story across the universe, Elios & Gaia, narrated in two books; and the paranormal romance/urban fantasy series The Immortals set in Rome. Stop by her blog to read about her miniatures, sculptures, paintings, and her beloved beagle, Nero. Sometimes, she also posts about her writing.

As we remember…

For America today is a day of remembrance for those lost in the terror attack on September 11, 2001. I’ll never forget the moment I heard about this horrible attack on American soil. The tears I shed that morning were for those lost in such a terrible way, for their families and for America. In that moment I knew we’d never be the same again.

No longer would we be sure of anything. It was the unthinkable and in that frame of mind, we wondered, is it over? I knelt as I held my small son, praying for America and the future of our children that would now live in post September 11th America. We still feel the effect today and it’s always at the back of our minds.

I sat this morning watching the moment of silence on television with tears streaming. The feelings that passed through me were overwhelming. Then as they played taps I thought of all the men that have lost their lives fighting for our safety. We take for granted what they do for us everyday.

Our Nation stood tall after that day and vowed to rebuild. So many heroes arose that day and many more were lost. The number of those lost is staggering.

So, on this day of remembrance for America, please take a moment to give thanks for those men and women that fight for us everyday and a prayer for those we lost on that fateful day. May God bless America!Flag8

Romancing September Across the World – Day 11 – Adrienne Vaughn

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

This is going to sound corny, but my biggest inspiration is my family, friends and my husband Jonathan. I come from a huge, sprawling, warm Irish family where I have witnessed firsthand every kind of love, though good and bad times. My friends too, new and old, all bring something different to my experience of love, in their relationships with their loved ones and families, it’s fascinating to see the many forms love takes. And finally, my own love story, after many years we’re still there for each other through thick and thin, my husband Jonathan is my biggest supporter when it comes to my writing career, and it has its up side, writers don’t talk much when they’re writing, so less chance of disagreements! J

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Adrienne Vaughan Author

I have been making up stories since I could speak; primarily to entertain my sister Reta, who from a very early age never allowed a plot or character to be repeated – tough audience. As soon as I could pick up a pen, I started writing them down. It was no surprise I wanted to be a journalist; ideally, the editor of a glossy magazine, so I could meet and marry a rock star – some of that came true – and in common with so many, I still hold the burning ambition to be a ‘Bond Girl’!

Today, I run a busy boutique PR consultancy in the East Midlands, and write my novels at every opportunity; early in the morning, late at night, on holiday, on aeroplanes and on dog walks in parks. So, that mad woman scribbling in purple pen in a notebook really is me, honestly.

I am proud to be a member of the Romantics Novelists’ Association, and true to form, am the editor of the association’s magazine, Romance Matters. I’m a founder of the indie publishing group, The New Romantics Press, and with the support of three other authors, Lizzie Lamb, June Kearns and Mags Cullingford, I have now written and published three novels – two of which, The Hollow Heart and A Change of Heart, were finalists in the Best Author Published Reads at the Festival of Romantic Fiction in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Not content with this slightly frenzied workload, Lizzie and I also contributed to a short story anthology, Hocus Pocus – which, I am delighted to say, has also been well received.

I may not have fallen for a rock star – the original plan – but definitely nabbed myself a hero, and now live in the middle of the English shires with my husband Jonathan, two cocker spaniels and a rescue cat named Agatha Christie.

I am also lucky enough to have a home in the Wicklow mountains, which helps me ‘keep my ear in’ and returning there goes some way to inspire the many characters featured in my stories.

My latest novel, Scandal of the Seahorse Hotel, is currently being scribbled down at every available moment – please look out for it, coming later this year.

Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour – Day 10 Lizzie Lamb

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 10 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

I would say, without doubt, the excellent literature/history based education I received, and movies and books I have read. I become so immersed in them that when I’ve finished I want to rush back to the keyboard and start writing something of my own. It goes without saying that I am referring to the good examples of both genres. Although, if I watch a bad movie or read a poorly constructed book I find myself mentally editing and re-writing them. Anyone else do that? Overall, however, the biggest inspiration for me is – myself! That’s not as vainglorious as it sounds . . . Because of other commitments, I started my writing career later than I would have liked – and I have years of lost time to make up. That’s what spurs me on, allied to the success I’ve had self-publishing my novels. Life is finite and I want to feel at the end of it that I’ve written the books I want to write and have done my very best. As I say on my website, life is not a rehearsal, if you have a dream – go for it.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Lizzie Lamb

Life is not a rehearsal
If you have a dream – go for it.

After teaching her 1000th pupil and working as a deputy head teacher in a large primary school, Lizzie decided it was time to leave the chalk face and pursue her first love: writing. She joined the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s New Writers’ Scheme, honed her craft and wrote Tall, Dark and Kilted (2012), quickly followed a year later by Boot Camp Bride. Lizzie loves the quick fire interchanges between the hero and heroine in the old black and white Hollywood movies, and hopes this love of dialogue comes across in her writing. Although much of her time is taken up publicising Tall, Dark and Kilted and Boot Camp Bride, she has published a third novel SCOTCH ON THE ROCKS and started research for number four. Lizzie is a founding member of indie publishing group – New Romantics Press. In November 2014 they held an Author Event at Waterstones High Street, Kensington, London the icing on the cake as far as they are concerned – and a fitting way to celebrate their achievements. As for the years Lizzie spent as a teacher, they haven’t quite gone to waste as she is building up a reputation as a go-to speaker on the subject of self-publishing.

With Scottish, Irish, and Brazilian blood in her veins, it’s hardly surprising that Lizzie Lamb is a writer. She even wrote extra scenes for the films she watched as a child and acted out in the playground with her friends. She is ashamed to admit that she kept all the good lines for herself. Luckily, she saves them for her readers these days. Check out her reviews, they speak for themselves.

LIZZIE HAS BEEN SHORTLISTED FOR THE NEW TALENT AWARD AT THE PRESTIGIOUS UK FESTIVAL OF ROMANCE. SHE WAS NOMINATED FOR THE OPENING CHAPTERS OF BOOT CAMP BRIDE.

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

Real life experiences! I’ve always said the horse industry is like a soap opera, and the rodeo industry even more so! Being a competitor and a judge, my life connects with so many people and stories that wind up in my books as pieces of characters or plots. It’s a great life and it’s definitely fueled my writing more than anything else.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

FJ Thomas

A cowgirl at heart, F.J. Thomas resides in east Tennessee on her horse farm with her husband Steve and their menagerie of horses, cats, and dogs. Working full time in the healthcare industry, F.J. spends the rest of her time judging open horse shows and competing in anything from huntseat to barrel racing and ranch events every chance she gets.

F.J. started writing in high school and never looked back. She’s written articles that have appeared in America’s Horse and Hoofbeats. Her real life pursuit of the cowgirl lifestyle has provided plenty of first-hand experience and inspiration for writing.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 8 – E. L. Lindley

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 8 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, E. L. Lindley

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

Without a doubt the biggest inspiration for my writing has been reading. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love to read. The local library was my second home as a child and I can still remember the sheer joy of being given access to places and people that were not a part of my everyday life. Reading, I’m certain, gave me the impetus to travel and meet people. That’s why it makes me so sad that reading is on the decline amongst young people. I work in schools and I meet so many teenagers who have never read a book and I think this is reflected in their lack of aspirations and perhaps more importantly lack of empathy. It seems to me no coincidence that, as people read less; our society seems to become less tolerant and more prone to violence. Schools in the UK are not allowed time on the curriculum to invest in reading as everything is so exam driven and this to me is where everything has gone wrong. Literacy and emotional skills are so poor that people can’t communicate with each other effectively. Reading for pleasure is seen as a waste of time, when in fact it enriches our lives inestimably. I like nothing better than to lose myself in someone else’s story and I particularly like stories that are part of a series. I suspect this is because it really does start to feel like there is this whole alternate world that you can immerse yourself in. That’s what I aim for in my own writing. If I can draw someone in and keep their mind off the stresses and strains of their own life for a couple of hours then, for me that’s a job well done.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

E.L. Lindley

E.L. Lindley is an indie writer and general lover of books in all of their forms. She has written numerous contemporary novels, including the Georgie Connelly series as well as standalone novels. When she is not writing, she is devouring the works of other writers and is delighted by how indie publishing has thrown open the world of publishing. She sees it as a win win situation, allowing writers to publish their work, whilst providing readers with a richer and more varied choice.
Lindley has always loved writing but produced her first full length novel, Business As Usual, when she decided to move on from her career as an English teacher. She now supplements her writing by working on a free-lance basis. This also affords her time to travel and she has been fortunate enough to have travelled extensively throughout the world, using her experiences as a source of inspiration for her writing.
She currently resides in Sheffield in the UK but has lived and worked in many places including, London, Oxford, Southampton, Cheltenham and Brighton. She also studied for a couple of years at the University of Arlington in Texas and has consequently made many extended trips to the USA to visit and stay with friends. Her novels reflect this and tend to incorporate both sides of the Atlantic.
Lindley writes in a style which is both light-hearted and fun but with serious undertones, often tackling gritty subjects. In all of her novels, the characters reflect her belief in humanity and the fact that the human spirit will always prevail, regardless of the situation. Lindley’s primary goal is to entertain people but she is happy to take any response that she can get.

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

– Personal experiences have given me a lot of inspiration. But the biggest inspiration has been observing life and love around me and having my heart so filled that it needs an outlet. Poetry has been that outlet.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Pamela Beckford

I started writing poetry in 2013 and haven’t stopped since. It is still hard to think of myself as a poet (or a writer), but I am.  I find that writing poetry has been a great release for me. I have been a non profit executive for over 15 years and am passionate about my job, even though it is extremely demanding. I have one grown daughter and an adorable young grandson who live way too far away from me.

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

The biggest inspiration for me is music or sound. A lyric can set me on a writing binge or even the crack of lightning can put me in a paranormal mood. I love a good storm to write to.

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

V.Steele

  1. Steele is an author with romance on the brain. She spans several romance genres from contemporary to historical to paranormal. Most of her writing is more for the over 18 crowd. Steamy romance and gorgeous men fill the words coming from her fingers.

Romancing September Across the World – Day 5 – Georgina Troy

Good morning everyone! I want to welcome you to the 2nd part of Day 5 of the 3rd Annual Romancing September Across the World Blog Tour. If you haven’t checked out Rosie’s post from earlier, then go by https://rosieamber.wordpress.com/ and get caught up.

Now on to today’s featured author, Georgina Troy

Here’s the question I asked:

What has been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

My love of the island where I live, most probably. Jersey is very pretty and although the island is only nine by five miles in size there is a huge social buzz in the island with a lot happening here like boat shows, the Battle of Flowers, an annual air show, Jersey Live/Groove de Lecq/Folklore music festivals and this year at the end of September the island is holding its first literary festival where I’ve been asked to give a talk, I can’t wait. We’ve also got our very own local hero, Superman. Well, the actor Henry Cavill is from the island and comes back often. I’ve seen him walking through town and my sister met him when she was out with a friend recently. (He’s very similar in looks to Sebastian Fielding, the hero in my second book, A Jersey Affair).

Here’s a little bit about today’s author:

Georgina Troy lives in Jersey, an island fifteen miles off the coast of France. She’s a hopeless romantic, always falling in love with heroes real and imagined. Jersey has so much scope for stories, with beautiful wind-swept beaches and intriguing inhabitants, and when Georgina realised that no one else wrote romances set there, she decided she had to provide some. Her books are published by Accent Press

A Jersey Dreamboat

 Book Description

Event planners Izzy and Jess are badly let down when a Jersey socialite hires them for the busiest weeks of the season and then cancels at the last minute, leaving the girls with no bookings and no money.

Feeling despondent, they try a night out to cheer themselves up, and meet the captivating and aristocratic Ed, who invites the two on a luxury yacht cruise to Nice, together with his two brothers. Romance builds through heady days of blue skies and warm seas, but when a last-minute wedding booking is offered, the girls must return to Jersey, and real life has to begin again … or has it?
